And now the little green aphids are back, in huge numbers just over the last few days. After being largely absent all summer. Is that normal for aphids?

In the meantime, I'm back to spraying daily.

For me it's intermittent - I view a thread, try another, get a "not found", then wait and refresh the page and it appears. But it's awfully slow.

Now that it's fall, I'm examining the leaves of the blackcurrant bush. There are no green aphids, but there are these little black-coloured insects. I don't know what they are, and an image search of "blackcurrant pests" didn't produce anything that looked like them. I don't know if they'r...

We're forecast to have low 20's all week. It's an absolute dream.

So there actually was an Alice Nutter - an innocent woman hanged as a witch in 1612. Was Agnes Nutter based on her? I assumed that Pratchett and/or Gaiman had made the name up.

An annual milestone was reached today: I switched to long-sleeve shirts.

Dave, have you reached a decision about relocating to the Falklands?

Looks like our heatwave is gone for now. Starting yesterday it's been in the low 20's and it's awesome.

I just looked up Sulphur Mountain: 2451 metres. I don't know if that's the highest I've been, or just the average. How much difference would 400 metres make?

I think Quito holds the record as the highest capital in the world. If you're prone to altitude sickness, you can't live there.

I don't think I'm prone to it - I've happily hiked in the Canadian Rockies. Is that comparable?

I had to cut the morning walk short today, since it was just too hot. I'm not sure if the dogs were relieved or disappointed. My ideal place to live would be always between 18 and 22 all year round, apart from a month or so of below 0 weather with a decent amount of snow. I suppose I could put up wi...

Thanks! It turns out that my aunt had my grandmother's old recipe, so I'll compare the two of them and decide what to do.

By the way, I found two more blackcurrants on my bush that were hiding under leaves. Yum.
