Wampuskitty: Let us know what ends up happening with that musician's cancer treatment, okay? That is, if you ever find out. notlistening: Yeah, I always felt pretty spoiled seeing the fireworks from there. Wise of you to avoid heading into the city; I made the mistake of trying that once and wound u...

Did anyone else here read the AICN report linked in the first post? It actually looks like this will be far from a rehash. They're going in a totally different direction, which is something the series needs. On the other hand, the idea sounded more than a little far-fetched, and I'm not sure it's go...

Wampus, that story brought a tear to my eye! :bawl: What a remarkable son you have! :) Anthy: A detached retina? That's terrible! I'm SO glad you caught it early, though, before your hubby lost his vision in that eye! I can see now what else you were referring to as far as illnesses in your family, ...

Happy New Year, everyone!! Hope you all have an absolutely amazing 365 days!! NL: Are you a Sydney-sider? The Sydney fireworks display looked especially incredible this year. Back when I still lived there, a friend of mine had a house in Mosman that overlooked Sydney Harbour, and every New ...

I knew this film was being made, but knew nothing of it besides Tom Hanks being in the lead and Ron Howard being the director. I've never read the book. But the trailer for it before Kong left me giddy with excitement! I was very excited to hear McKellan's wonderful voice, too.

What always bugs me is when people cite the "fact" that we only use 10% of out brains as evidence for latent psychic ability. Ummmm, no, actually we use our whole brain. The 10% statistic was an estimation of how much of the brain's function we understood. Only around 10% of our brain's fu...

I'm baaaaa-aaaack! At long last! This has been a long, long, long semester. It was my first semester of vet school, and I never thought anything could possibly be so much work! I feel like Frodo at the top of Mount Doom. And yet, although it's been four months of blood, sweat and tears, I've never f...

My top 10 of the year: 1. Serenity--one of the best sci-fi films I've ever seen. Even better than the TV series it's based on. I pray to God that we get more films and/or that the series gets picked up again. 2. Sin City--very faithful to the comic. An amazing visual experience, top performances, an...

I also bought the DVD, and it remains every bit as wonderful as it was seeing it for the first time on the big screen. Best piece of sci-fi since Empire Strikes Back, in my opinion.

I think I agree with what most others have said about Kong. It was a very good film, highly entertaining, but about 30 minutes too long and short of being a masterpiece. I also absolutely hated the whole pointless Jimmy subplot that never went anywhere, although I loved the appearance of Heart of Da...

*story spoilers* I just wanted to briefly chime in to say that I absolutely LOVED the film. It tapped into the child-like fascination that made me love the books in the first place and whisked me away to Narnia in a very real way. As others have said, the young lady who played Lucy was wonderful; ev...

I just discovered yesterday that my surround sound system CAN in fact play DTS sound in addition to Dolby! I watched the first 15 minutes or so of TTT and Iavas is right: the sound really does have a crispness, richness and clarity that Dolby lacks. One problem, though, is that I only have 5.1 chann...

So I'd never heard of a man being called Joss and I got mixed up! So shoot me! Forgot to add that I love the humor--particularly the darker humor. One of my fave scenes is when Mal says "darn" and kicks that goon into the turbine, because he'd said he was going to devote his life to huntin...

Ditto, Maria. I rented the first six episodes, and have watched both Serenity (the true first episode) and The Train Job. And I've gotta say I'm blown away. I was pretty hyped up after reading all the glowing opinions of the series, and it still managed to surprise me with its quality. The script is...

Okay, that's it. That's friggin it! :x I'm done with this thread. And you know what else? I'm done with this whole damn board! I suppose its eventual decline was inevitable, but I didn't expect it to come quite this quickly. But unfortunately this thread has made it abundantly clear that this declin...

I would have loved an Eye seen clearly only in visions, that was otherwise just an oblique red glow from a window, or glimpsed through a cloud. That leaves the impression of a lurking power. The Eye on top of the tower is absurdly confined and too blatant to be truly frightening. The way that PJ de...
