An individual can contribute up to 2,000 USD to an individual candidate and up to 26,700 USD to a national party committee in the next election cycle, according to this site. That took approximately 10 seconds to find. Now for the love of God and all your fellow posters (and lurkers), move on, guys....

Sauronsfinger, Rehnquist's declaration makes a little more sense if we correct your characterization of the president. Rehnquist is a conservative. George W. Bush, on the other hand, is a radical (or at least his administration has consistently pursued radical ends). A true conservative could not by...

What Alatar and Ugluk say is very true, but if you get lucky in your choice of game you might catch a wave… I stopped playing (and collecting) Magic: the Gathering about three years ago because the group of friends I normally played with decided it was time to get lives and moved off in different ...

I was so geeked at seeing you there in all your floral glory that I forgot my purpose in opening the thread... :) IMO, it should be done REALLY, REALLY right-- but if that's no longer a viable option, then REALLY right would be the way to go. and if V's heart isn't in it maybe we should delegate it ...

I've never actually had the opportunity to be involved in a MERP campaign, but I do have a couple of the sourcebooks (Creatures of Middle Earth, Treasures of Middle Earth). These are quite well done, I agree, and while there's a certain (unavoidable) amount of extrapolation, they seem to have a pret...

Bornilon. Thanks for coming out of lurkdom. I have always been mystified by lurkers. No need to be mystified, Wilma. Lurking is just a way of maintaining one's high opinion of other posters-- if you don't write anything, no one will reveal their shortcomings by disagreeing with you! ;) Plus, it is ...

Vison, let me add my voice to the chorus. The journal of your experience is just one the most moving, eloquent and excellent things I've ever had the privelege to read. It reveals not only a high and well-honed talent, but a human being who enriches the reputation of humanity. As so many others have...

Now that's more like what V had in mind, I'll bet! :D Very interesting post, Idylle. I'd originally intended my first post in this thread to be a discussion of the roots of "magic" in Middle Earth (following on Jny's observations). Unfortunately, it wound up seeming kind of aimless and mea...

You have to sympathize with the predicament of the Istari. Here you are, one of the Ainur, a chorister in the Great Music, a genuine Shaper of Arda (jg), and one day the boss says “I’ve got this little job for you”. And it turns out the job involves getting jammed into a hroa —and not necess...

You know, when I first read Estel's idea my reaction was almost exactly the same as TH's. I thought, jeez, I'm gonna have to post ? Like, multiple times? Posting is an obligation here? But, after thinking about it a bit, I realize it's actually a wonderful idea. Take me-- I'm someone for whom the ph...

I have to agree that it's worrisome for those of us who aren't big fans of the agenda of the current administration. While O'Connor tended to be conservative, she was not an ideologue. I am highly skeptical that the administration will propose a replacement who is perceived (by them) as anything oth...

All of those were radicals Ara-anna. That's not the same as your normal every day conservative. That's true, Eruname-- but I consider our current administration to be far more radical (-right) than conservative. Its efforts to deconstruct programs which have been in place for a couple of generation...

Ath - thanks for the choccie! Voronwë, I've had a quick look at the ToHI forum; dunno if I'll be winning any prizes, but at least it's given me a clue as to why the Grand Opening took so long! Of course, I understand the reasons for so much deliberation, and already have confidence it will prove no...
