I've heard sometimes it's raining men, but hailing gorillas? [emoji1664]
I thought I'd heard that phrase before, as a song:

Yesterday I was walking around our place in shorts and sandals, checking on livestock when I got back home from work. The temp was 75F / 24C. Before I finished (maybe 10 minutes?) the wind picked up and it started blowing COLD air out there. By the time I got back inside the temp had dropped to 65F/...

OK, that *is* funny! :D

They are putting gravel on our gravel road today! I suspect someone complained. I would have, but I kept forgetting once I actually got off the road.

The weather is nice here. It feels like spring, but it's two months early.

Last year the county did a lot of work on the gravel road that leads to our house. They used an awful lot of what looked like plain dirt which made dust a big problem. Now that the big freeze has thawed and lots of rain has happened, the supposedly "gravel" road has turned into a mud pit. ...

California has other issues. When we visited northern California a while back (a decade, now, maybe?) I was appalled to see tsunami warning signs all over the coastal areas we visited. I was a bit freaked out by that. Yes, the ocean can rise up here and wipe you and everything you see off the map. S...

Lali, The dark brown insulated overalls are a different brand. The matching jacket didn't last long, so I went back with Carhartt's for the replacement. I haven't had a reason to replace the overalls yet. The cows don't care. :P Insulated boots, overalls, jacket, gloves... everything is thick enough...

Me after feeding cows yesterday: 20240115_163737.jpg It was 0F/ -17.8C and the tractor wouldn't start. (The diesel is probably gelled) We ended up rolling the round bale into the pen using metal posts as levers. On the last few rotations we pulled off the netting and the bale started laying out on t...

You people all live in a terrifying hellscape. :Wooper:
You should see how we have to bundle up for outdoor chores. Staying outside in that weather for 30 to 45 minutes or so requires many layers.

It's negative -12F /-24.4C here, right now with wind chills near -30F/-34C. That breaks the local record for low temp on this date.

It's extra hot here, this week. A high of 80F /26.7C. That's pretty weird for this part of the planet.

Fire ants are very mean creatures. Killing them wouldn't bother me a bit. Those little monsters will bite you and then sting repeatedly while holding on with their mandibles. Each sting makes a little pustule. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/23362-fire-ant-bites I got stung more than ...

Humidex is the same thing as heat index. I think I like the word humidex better, actually. Heat index implies that something is actually that hot when it isn't. The actual temperatures this summer (here) haven't been above 105 F /40.6C yet. The humidity, though, after the drought eased up, makes it ...

The highest heat index this week so far has been 125 F / 51.7 C

Unpleasant, to say the least. :( Two more days to go and then it is supposed to drop to more normal August heat levels.

It looks nice! I suspect your plants will spread out more than you are expecting, though. Ours always do.
