Fasting might be good for your soul. I can't say. But fasting is BAD for your health. It is not "cleansing" or "purifying", it is harmful . Your body "cleanses" itself every day, actually. You do not need to "purify" your body, it has a lovely excretory system...

No, Darjeeling does NOT have bergamot (ick, ick) in it. It is a lovely black Indian tea.

Vison, I have a 92 year old mom here. Maybe once she's passed on, I might think about relocating somewhere. And the B.C. government has no one to blame for the nursing shortage but itself!! po'ed I moderate the Canadian nursing forum on Allnurses, and the things I've read about the way they treated...

Vison, love your idea! I wish I had someone to walk with, and I'm a big fan of dogs. My German Shepherd will be 14 in May, and has reached the point where she holds me back a bit on a vigorous walk. I"m thinking of getting a puppy once I move to Aurora in March. Are you in B.C.? The weather yo...

Sunsilver, I can SO totally relate to your post. I am so fat and out of shape it's frightening to me. I MUST do something about it!!! I began the school year with good intentions of walking the kids to school every day and I have, but not every day. For some years I walked four or five miles EVERY d...

That was a good post, Sunsilver. As an aside, I didn't know you are a fellow Canadian! Berhael, you're young. You can be part of the future where things like that don't happen. You can vote for decent men and women and you can alway speak out against evil. But looking at the world right now, I'm not...

A few years ago CBC radio did a documentary series on "Children in Wartime". It was very interesting, very well done. The last program in the series dealt with the death camps. A woman, a survivor, told how she was separated from her mother and put on a train. She was about 8 or 9 at the t...

I've enjoyed every one of Bill Bryson's books. He picks on everyone, and has the disarming ability to laugh at himself. "Notes from a Big Country" was written specifically for the British market, though, and is a trifle more meanspirited than his other books. He is also a scholar of the En...

I'm not here so much because I'm unhappy with Torc, but because there are so many people here I've learned to like and respect. And, with respect, Lidless, I never knew you very well and also didn't know much about the events that led to your banning. Still, the banning itself was a terrible shock a...

 Impenitent, thank you for your welcome! I think I tend to be more forgiving as I get older. There is so much for others to forgive in ME and I guess I'm hoping for mercy. :D I know myself so well, my capacity for doing wrong in a million petty, stupid ways. I am sometimes impatient and cros...

Buddy moves from the big city to the wilderness. He's tired of the rat race and wants to "find himself" and "commune with nature". Still, after six months he's a bit bored, and is thrilled to have company one day. Standing on his doorstep is a big, rough-hewn cowboy, boots, ten g...

Yes. I fear death. Right now I fear death because I have two young grandchildren that my husband and I are bringing up. Their mother died and their father abandoned them and I can't bear to think how they would suffer if I were to die. I have to live until they are young men and out in the world. Un...

Nothing like jumping in with both feet. Is the water cold? Cheat or be cheated on? What I do is up to me , what happens to me is sometimes up to someone else. I wouldn't cheat. That's in my control. However, like President Carter, I have now and again lusted after others in my heart. So? It's a comm...
