When I was having trouble with aphids, I always found them on the leaves, not the actual fruit itself. Apparently they suck the sap out of the plant, so that berries are unable to form.

Aphids have a special symbiotic relationship with certain types of ants, and if you've been following this thread you know that aphids prevented me from several years of blackcurrant harvests (thankfully it seems that they have been vanquished). So I'd recommend getting rid of the ants if you want a...

I don't remember that quote, but it sounds pretty accurate. So here are where the two trees are going to go, and here are the two trees. I think the final work will be done when the shed arrives, which should be sometime during the first week of September. Will that give the plants enough time to ge...

So I picked up some "blood and bone meal" to fertilize the new garden. That may have been a mistake - now Willow and Loki want to dig it all up! :Q

51.7 C? Is that the actual temperature or a formula like "humidex" that's supposed to represent the perceived temperature?

I doubt I could plant a pomegranate here. Although with the new climate, who knows? More pictures will follow when it's all finished and everything is in place, but here is the main garden area: from left to right (ignore the pots) there is Boysenberry, Blackberry, Blueberry, and Raspberry (which I ...

So far I've planted boysenberry, blackberry, and blueberry. Even when I plant the raspberry, I'll have more room left over. And I even planted them far enough apart! Now wondering whether I should plant smaller things between them, or expect them to spread out. I've got room in the corner for someth...

We should consider renaming this thread, firstly because it's attracting spambots, and secondly because it developed into an overall discussion of Doctor Who.

Alatar, since it's your thread I'll let you decide...

An amusing anecdote from Dolly Parton's autobiography: Dolly Parton entered a Dolly Parton look-alike contest. And lost. In her memoir, Dream More, Parton tells a very amusing story. One day on a trip to Los Angeles, she heard about a Dolly Parton look-alike contest that was being held at a local ba...
