No, tipping is not assumed. People generally tip if the service is a deal above that which business civility dictates, but people may also tip if they're feeling particularly happy, or generous, or flush with funds, or showing off - or, increasingly, in recognition of the difficult conditions. It's tricky though, because I generally operate cash-less these days, so the family scrambles to check the bottom of bags and pockets to gather ...

I watched an episode here and there when it first aired, never consistently enough to really be taken by it...and, I guess, neber sufficiently taken by it to watch it consistently. In theory, it should have been something I liked but I could not suspend disbelief. It was the prosthetic makeup of the...

A little, but there has been some rain as well...which, of course, caused flooding across denuded ground, which is so dry and hard that its hydrophobic.

Also, so much has already burned.

We (in Melbourne) haven't had that acrid hazy smog in the last week.

As you knw, it's mid-summer in Oz and we've been wxperencing the hottest, driest summer on record, with bushfires ravishing the country. So yesterday, this happened: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200119/cb82b8cc91626103118ff69fee7dded7.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200119/f90e815921fa8...

Oh! Thanks Al - you're right, I had no idea. I'll fix it when I'm on a 'puter tomorrow morning. Thanks.

(ETA I can see my tiny dancing Snoopy profile, though, and it makes me happy.)

So, how was it, Jude? I've just finished The Keepers of the House, by Shirley Ann Grau, written in 1964. It's set in Alabama, and it directly confronts the burning of issue of the time - race relations. Born and bred in the south, Grau has an insider's perspective. The book chronicles the lives of a...

We've had one of our expected heatwaves when the temperature doesn't drop below the mid 20s overnight. Makes it hard work when one doesn't have air-con, which we don't. Fans work well even with temperatures in the mid 40s, as long as there is adequate drop at night to cool the house, so we can keep ...
