I am loving Ratatat's 9 Beats CD. Turned onto it by my daughter.

I'm embarrassed that I haven't reported back before this. My excuse is that I'm still fighting off jet-lag and a certain amount of anxiety about what's happening back home with my girlie, and the handful of neurons that haven't gone out on strike are grappling with acclimatising to all the new stuff...

Mith is a chick? :Q :D Rocks your brain when you first find out something like that, doesn't it. I knew she was a girlie, but for years I thought Tolkien Purist was a boy, and that Yovargas was a girl. Hadn't seen pictures, you see. Rocked my brain when I found out, and then I felt a wee bit silly....

Thanks C-G. The Mission district sounds interesting to me. I've effectively got two and a half days. I arrive early morning. I figure I drop my stuff off at the hotel then go explore a little, on foot. I can probably take in two different areas on that day. Second day, I'm booking a bus tour of the ...

Brian, it would be so great to meet you! I will be in Philadelphia for two nights and hope it may be possible for you. Admittedly, my friend there seems to have plans that will take at least a week to get through but she has family to take care of which may give me the opportunity to sneak away for ...

Thanks C_G. I figure I'll do what I can on foot on Sunday, the day of arrival, and then take a tour of the beaches on Monday. Not the optimal way to see a city but I'm going to be there for such a short time! Hoping to see the Getty Museum on Tuesday before I leave for SF. If you're available for a ...

vison, I know you and your family are confronting some hard stuff right now, so I'm aware of how difficult it is to take time out for yourself, especially when there's expense involved. I'm in a similar position, though the hand I'm playing is different to yours. I'm very VERY fortunate to have the ...

Thanks for the tips on SF. As I said above, I'll be in LA for three days/two nights and then in SF for five days/four nights. I'm sifting through the Lonely Planet guides to plan my days. I'll be in the US in late March and April and would love to meet with any virtual friends who are up for it. An ...

Yes (thanks for covering my tushie, Lali), I am staying in LA for two days/nights only - I figured if I'm in the city I should at least look around. I still need to work out my accommodation; found lots of hotels but don't have a clue how to judge locations. I'm hoping to find a safe area that is wi...

Lali, on the map Ohio looks like it's about an inch away from Miami and NYC. Wish it was as easy on the ground.

I'm checking out LA hotels now.

Hi Jude. :) I would have enjoyed a 12 month ramble through the whole of the north American subcontinent (come to think, the southern subcontinent would be good, too) but life's just not like that. Not enough time, and certainly not enough money. I'm having kittens at the thought of leaving my family...

Dates aren't set yet, Estel, but New York will be near the end of the trip, mid to late April. What I've got so far is SF for about 5 days, then fly to Fort Lauderdale where I'll stay with a friend for maybe 10 days, then travel (by bus?) to Charlotte, onto New York. I'll be staying in a friend's ap...

San Francisco seems to be the consensus of all the advice-givers I've asked. The travel agency is offering the same very attractive fare to those two cities, so I guess SF is it.

Thank you for chipping in. :)

I still can't believe it's real! But it is. Unexpected saviour of my mental health.

I'm not going to vote in the poll because I simply have not seen Hal's posts anywhere - and that is a function of where I hang out and how far (not) I wander around B77. I would not have known that he was back, or that he has been posting, or that he has been posting disruptively, if I hadn't happen...

Lego, call any travel agent in the book (or on google) and ask. It's a yes/no answer - I'm sure they'll tell you free and gratis.

This would never work with me. I'm always in yummy cookie mode. I've short-circuited the off switch on that one. :blackeye:
