So, I just noticed that my post count when from around 1620something to 1489...that's a lot of posts gone missing. Who's been deleting stuff, what have they been deleting, and why wasn't this mentioned/discussed with the membership before it was done? Or have I missed something here in the Business forum?

Leoba deleted some of the old invite threads.

See her post in Griff's (now superfluous) 1000 post celebration thread.

I've lost about 50 I think ....

This is so not fair. I'll never post in an invite thread again. :bawl:

Hopefully, there'll never be another invite thread to post in.

If it has been the invite threads, then I'd like to know why? When I was an admin, we had come to an agreement that they wouldn't be deleted unless a person who was invited became admin and then only their invite thread would be deleted.

I've had practically a fourth of my total posts deleted since joining. After the last mass deletion I thought we were done with it. I don't post for my posts to later be wiped away...makes me feel like I'm wasting my time.

The Wilko thread in Bike Racks was deleted, per
Bike Rack procedure. Members don't want disputes to follow them around or remain visible to others forever.

The arbitration thread will be deleted too, but that won't affect you, Eru.

Usually, threads are moved over to Deleted Storage. Noone can see them except admins and we can keep our contributions to the board. Very rarely has a thread actually been deleted, as in wiping out all trace of it.

It really has nothing to do with the experimental board, but just the way things have been set up here.

No, deleted as in really deleted, as far as I know.

Leoba's deletion surprised me too, though there is a valid reason for it - since voted in members will soon be Admin, they can see their invite threads ... so best to delete the invite threads. Makes sense to me, though I would have liked a sticky announcement in Business. In future we should announce things like that! :D

I'm sorry it surprised you. I posted in the Admin forum a week ago to suggest that this was done. No-one responded about it or screamed 'no', so I went ahead and deleted the invites threads for those people who are now on the board.

Given that we look like we're about to have an admin whose invite thread was still stored there it became apparent that we ought not to be hanging on to them.

Those are the only threads that have gone. The one from the BikeRacks is in fact in Deleted Storage.

Okay, please line up one by one to hit me.

Wheps - spoke completely uninformed, there! Leoba - I check the Admin forum daily and somehow I just COMPLETELY missed your post! :D

Well, what I meant to say was that we could maybe announce Admin decisions as a sticky here, just so the curious general membership also knows what's going on. I SHOULD have known what was going on, of course. I guess I have only my lovestruckness to blame for keeping my mind on other things and not assimilating the info.

Well, I'll join the line, but only if I may hug you when I get to the front :D

Slaps Leoba :P

You know I don't mean it;)

I spammed my way back to 1000, I feel complete again and like some others hope there will be no more invite threads to delete.

We could announce things by way of a sticky. Or indeed we could just encourage everyone to keep an eye on the Touching Base with One Another thread? :)

And only a hug? *pouts* Are all your smooches used up then. :P:P

I didn't notice the announcement, but the Admin forum is visible to all anyway, so I don't see particular need for an extra sticky. If I'd checked there I'd have seen it I guess.

Someday we'll be pristine with clear announcements and no surprises. :D

*hugs Leoba and Eru*

I shouldn't think that, anything really important has been lost in deleting some old invitation threads that have served their purpose. Some other kinds of threads would be a different matter.

(FYI, I'm at the moment posting elsewhere in a number of "project" threads that will be deleted after the project is finished. I'm going to lose tens of posts in that. So what?)

I wonder why the post counts seem to be so important to some? :scratch Somehow, I think it would be better if the post counts were only visible in a person's profile, like on a couple of other boards I visit - that way, high post counts might not get overrated.

Phew, good to hear that - I was afraid I'd been hallucinating about my postcount having gone down by almost a hundred.

Yes, the admin forum is visible, so we all could check - looks like everybody trusts the admins enough not to bother, though! :D

truehobbit - I doubt people here are very concerned with post count. I did notice my post count dropping, and since I noticed it in the middle of the deleting, I actually saw it drop TWICE - and I did wonder a little what the heck was going on, if maybe phpBB was being hacked again, but since I was having a phone convo with, erhm, Faramond :D at the time ( had opened B77 to reference a thread we were remarking about ), I didn't investigate immediately.

It has less to do with post count than with just being surprised ( those of us too dumb to read the Admin forum announcement :D ) for most people, I think! Any moaning about post count in my case was jokingly meant! :D
