Several people have mentioned that they would like to see a specific forum to discuss all things related to Middle-earth. I think it is a great idea, but I know that there are also some who are not particularly interested in such discussions. But I really would like to know is if anyone has any serious objections to the idea, and if so, why.

This poll will close no later then May 1.

Hmmm? I hope that whoever voted "yes" within a minute of me posting this will elaborate.

Yes, I'd like to be able to discuss aspects of the book and movie and score and art and biographies together, rather than in 4 or 5 places. As we inevitably branch out, it would be nice if we kept a forum about our roots.

EDIT: Patience!!

Laureanna, I'm confused. Was it you that voted "yes"? It seems from your post that you would be a definite "no" vote. As in "no" you don't object to forming such a forum. Was I too confusing in the way I framed my question?

What is this, a California referendum?

I almost voted "Yes" as well, meaning that I would like to have one. :D

So if yes we want one, vote No, right?

OK, I'm running off now to vote No.

An ME forum? But of course!! :D

If I understand you right, then anything Middle Earth related ot e.g.music, collecteables, 'books', films etc. would go in there? If so, then I guess some threads might be relocated (upon consent) but I don't think that will be a problem. Seeing the wide-ranging diversity of this board as it is today, having an ME corner somewhere would be very nice indeed.

Cozy

This isn't a formal election, and anyone reading this far will be alerted to read the poll carefully, so I think there's no problem, Voronwe.

Five-zip so far, counting laureanna's correction. And I agree that it would be a cozy place. I can imagine simply moving in. :)

I too voted No meaning that Yes I would love to have such a forum. And yes, I too almost miscasted my vote.
Voronwe I love the way you frame your questions. :P

Alandriel - yes, some tidying up of the place will have to happen. But it wouldn't cause too many troubles, right?

I voted no meaning yes, we should have such a forum, meaning no, I have no objections, you honor. But only because I read the thread first. No programmer would ever phrase a poll that way, you know.

EDIT: Although I do understand what you meant, Chief - you wanted to see if there were posters who really didn't want such a forum underfoot.

Sounds like a great idea.

Talking of new forums, is Estel still planning on reorganising things before the end of her term of office? And could this therefore be done as a part of that? :)

Being a Swiss used to several votes per year with very weird questions (I mainly remember the vote about the abolition of the army...) I had no problem voting no to have such a forum.

I'd like a Tolkien forum also.

I'd like a gaming forum too, but I was told I'd have to wait till we moved :(

Good idea. I'd rather have all the ME threads together.

I'd like to hear from other admins and previous admins reading this why Alatar's gaming forum was deferred. If it would cause problems to add forums before the move, I can understand (although it wouldn't add to the number of threads to be moved--they'd just be rearranged).

If it's just a question of an admin spending the time, I would be happy to add both these forums, after some practice over at the experimental board, unless some disagreement emerges. Obviously people seem interested in the Middle Earth forum. Alatar, did you ever post a similar thread asking about your gaming forum?

If we were to do this, I would really want a consensus on which existing threads ought to go into them--we don't want to annoy people. Perhaps the simplest strategy would be to build the forums and then let threadstarters PM me to request that their threads be moved.

But I don't want to do this at all if there are good reasons against it that I'm not aware of. Please do make me aware of them, though!

I think I'm going to start a thread on this in the admin forum (which you should all be able to read). It will be a few hours, though.

Absolutely no objections. Concentrating all the Middle Earth discussion to one forum would help in arranging all the other stuff as well.

I honestly didn't know before, I guess I'm just so used to not being able to at other boards....
