Really, what the fuck is up with these things? They're obnoxious to look at.

You're seeing banner ads in the middle of threads, TED? I haven't seen those. Can you describe them more specifically?

Oh dear, they're all over the place, Prim.

I thought someone was putting ads in their sig pics.

The ads are the width of the page, about as deep as an avatar pic, and shows up between posts.

Yeah, like that one just above your post, Jn.

Prim, if you hadn't yet, go have a peek on the phpBB support forum, and ask about them!

http://www.phpbber.com/support/

All the same I'm guessing it might be a bug placing the ad in the thread instead of at top. Though I don't know! :D

I use a Mac running Safari with popups blocked, so apparently I'm living in delusional bliss.

Yuck. I'm sorry.

This is another thing that would be put an end to on our own site--there would be no ads. None at all.

Edit: Griffy, I followed your link, but I don't have time to track down the right place to post--I've got to get to bed. I'll try to take another look tomorrow. MariaHobbit pointed out elsewhere that we have something like eighteen times as much post traffic as our nearest rival here, so maybe we can use the leverage to influence something.

Prim, here is what I mean.

^This is right from this very thread. As Griffon said, the one above Jn's head. You're lucky if you don't see them.

That completely stinks, TED. No, I don't see them, and I guess I am lucky.

I will see who I can talk to about it tomorrow (realistically the next day--deadlines are bad this week).

I see them too. And they're always above Tosh's posts, but that might be conincidential.

Yuck. :P

They're bad enough mid-serious discussion. I don't even want to look at the RP threads. :(

I'll see about registering over at phpbber.com and asking 'why' and 'can we do anything about them'?

Edit: post up here. Please feel free to come and support me, Prim, when you have the opportunity. :D

You may be right, Nin. :(

I've gone and posted to back Leoba up--thanks for starting the thread, Leoba!

As a temporary measure, perhaps people could turn on their popup blockers if they have them and aren't using them. Some browsers have this feature. If the ads are defeating those, I don't know what to do.

My blocker seems to work, but again, I use a Mac and a fairly new one.

I have a brand new Mac with Safari, as well, and I still see them. Quite obnoxious, they are. It's been happening on another PHPBB board that I post on, so it might be whoever runs the whole thing doing it. . . But it's not just us.

Maiden, under the "Safari" menu (right next to the Apple menu), do you have an option called "Block Pop-Up Windows" and is it checked?

Argh--I wonder what's the difference.

We have a firewall--I wonder if that could have something to do with it?

I'm at school right now, and I think there's a firewall here as well. Might block different things though. I don't know . . . It does seem to down today, though.

I have a firewall (ZoneAlert) and I see them.... I think it's a phpbb thing -they need ads (and we do use a lot of their broadband)

Firefox with popup blocker on a PC here, and no ads.

IE sux, dump it.
