Now that I see the possible scope of what initially was the proposal for a games forum ... :) I have no problem.

I like Holby's suggestion to name it Recreation (or some such global title) though to incorporate - for the time being - ALL the other things that have been suggested (hobbies & sports, gardening, cooking etc.). I'm all for expanding and re-organizing the board and making many new rooms/fora - but with a bit of a plan at hand ;)

Just what is 'EOW&FP forum'? (yes, I am dense sometimes :help: )

<quietly shelves plans for "Engines of War and Fried Pastries" forum>
<shelves plans for "Getting Drunk and Shooting Aliens" subforum>

:D Prim, you're fabulous! :D

Still another  for Ang's grandson.

Alatar, what do you think about a name for the forum? You'll note that there's an explanatory note after every forum name in the Forum Index, so if this forum had an all-encompassing name such as "Recreation" we could list the elements there. So far we've got games, hobbies, sports, and cooking, right? Which would make the forum name quite long if it listed them all. What are your ideas? (Or anyone's, of course.)

How about "Made in Dale"? It's a little obscure I know, but it's a nice nod to the toys and games that were in the Crackers at Bilbo's birthday party.

I think the subheading should just read "Games, Hobbies and Recreation"

Yova, it's a reference to the Toys and Musical Instruments that were given as presents or in Crackers at Bilbo's Eleventy-first birthday party.
Quote:
On this occasion the presents were unusually good. The hobbit-children were so excited that for a while they almost forgot about eating. There were toys the like of which they had never seen before, all beautiful and some obviously magical. Many of them had indeed been ordered a year before, and had come all the way from the Mountain and from Dale, and were of real dwarf-make.
Quote:
Hundreds of musical crackers had been pulled. Most of them bore the mark DALE on them; which did not convey much to most of the hobbits, but they all agreed they were marvellous crackers. They contained instruments, small, but of perfect make and enchanting tones.
The idea is that "Made in Dale" would represent the Fun and Games side of this board.

:D :D

Nice one - really like that suggestion! :D

but on second thought...... would it not REALLY confuse matters since we're also talking about the creation of a Middle Earth forum, to then use an ME name for something that won't really be Middle Earth related?
:scratch confusing!

say: in the main forum 'Round Table' would then go the Middle Earth forum (or some name as per Voronwe) and then also the 'Made in Dale' forum as per Alantar, which won't really contain anything Middle Earth. Don't know.. really, but it is rather confusing.

and :P back to you Angbasil the cheeky. Don't you know that red-head's breains don't function like that? We *never* see the obvious

That's my job, Alandriel - to point out the obvious.

About the issue of difficulty of giving access to the new forum to all the users: When I was playing around with my family board, I tried adding in a new forum and all the users had access to it without me manually resetting every user's permission level.

I just went to Forum Permissions, and made the forum Hidden(registered) and that was it! There wasn't even an option for me to disallow access for individuals.

Are all the forums on B77 set to "Private" or something? If so, why is that necessary? Hidden(registered) keeps the forum out of the sight of the non-registered.

It shouldn't be as hard as it sounds to start a new forum, or am I missing something? :scratch

Yes the settings are set to private MH. They cannot be set to registered because then anyone who registers could see them. We've had more than a few people register here out of the blue. So until we have the board open, the setting are on private.

Alandriel, my thinking was that the Middle-earth subforum would go in the arts subforum with the other book-, movie-, and music-related subfora. I think it's a better fit there than in Roundtable.

"Made in Dale" would go in the Roundtable forum, and the subforum description would make it clear what it was about.

Anyway, I think anyone familiar enough with Tolkien to recognize that "Made in Dale" came from the book would also get the toy and game reference. :)
