Eru,

I have had not only this site but yahoo had some problems too. I could not get anywhere this afternoon, here, yahoo, anywhere. Maybe its the heat, maybe its the transmission lines, maybe its the satilites being re-aligned for the shuttle flight, maybe its martians planting loud noise ships under the surface. But there was something wrong.

It was a problem with *this* board... and yahoo. Sorry, but I did not get the emails through yahoo until this morning. Phpbb emailed me that (re-backing up of our board)
Quote:

give us couple of days to fix this issue.
thanks (Tue, 12 Jul 2005 14:03:19 -0400 (EDT))
and then
Quote:
Your backup will be uploaded into our server 60 minutes from this email sent. Tue, 12 Jul 2005 12:21:16 -0400 (EDT)
They've given me an url where the backup supposedly is located, valid for the next 72 hours but when I try accessing it it tells me HTTP404-error, page not found. I've emailed phpbb again about this, so it's likely we might have some more hiccups possibly over the next couple of days - OR, which I hope, they managed the backup just fine but there is a problem with the page where it now supposedly is.

I will also post this in the Global Annoucement. If any more down-times happen, it will only be temporary so please don't worry about it.

Maybe this board is too big, and when we hit 100,000 posts, it'll self-destruct! :P ;)

Alandriel,

could you look at the Ranger comm thread in Michel Delving, starting with

Eru's Post

and read through to the end.

Tinwe registered, clicking the under-13 option on the form ... anyway, see his post.

We need to find out from the phpbber guys why our admins don't know whether this form letter has gone out or not, and we also need to figure out how to use it, i.e. put in a fax number or something.

Help!!!!

I was out of town a couple of weeks, during which time my hard drive decided to take a permanent vacation. I'm back up now, with everything set up as before. But suddenly I am not getting any mail from b77 when threads are updated.

I checked my spam folder and they're not going there. I also checked my settings here, and I'm still supposed to be notified.

I don't get a lot of PMs, so I don't know if I'd be notified on those.

Any clue what's going on and how I can fix it?

Wampuscat,

I sent you PM. Look and see if you received a notification email for it.

Well, this is curious! Now I've gotten two thread notifications, but no notification about your PM, tinwe. And the PM is not in my list of PMs.

The PM isn't in my outbox or sentbox either. I suppose it’s possible I didn’t send it. Let me try again.

Glad to be of assistance. :) (Not that I actually did anything but, you know, it does make me look good if I pretend to be useful ;))

OK, so now another glitch. Even though I check the little box that says to automatically sign me in every time I come to the board, the board (or my computer) fails to remember that little task. I have to log in every time. Didn't use to be like this...

What's up?

Am I cursed?

Is this just God's way of telling me to get off the computer and go read Harry Potter?

Could this have something to do with cookies? As in, your new configuration isn't accepting them? :scratch

Jeez, Prim, every time something doesn't work, you blame it on the cookies...

Does anyone know the character limit for thread titles? I'm having some trouble with my FotR DVD discussion thread - I can't fit the chapter titles.

Not a big deal but a wee annoyance.

Pardon me for a question maybe already answered, discussed, etc. in the meantime - I've been absent for some months and not yet up to date with the policies now:

Is there a word filter on? I wrote "Large Butt" in one post (about funny names of cities) and it seems the post disappeared within the last half a day.

Huh? (innocent)

No word filter, perhaps there's a comedy filter though. It re-routes posts when there's a danger of comedy overload to duller threads.
When I saw mumpys misplaced post I was going to give a Tolkien reference but thought it would be out of place.
