Friends,

It looks as if we will be putting up several ratification votes on Monday and Tuesday, so that all the voting required for opening the board will be concluded by Sunday, June 26.

That means we would be opening during the week of June 26-July 2, which is also, btw, the Independence Day holiday in the US!

:cheerleader:

We should have a committee to devise some Grand Opening Celebrations for welcoming the new members whose permissions will be activated that week, and just for generally raising a h00t and a holler for our own accomplishment.

This is one of the biggest weeks in Board77 history so far.

I'm starting this thread so that people can volunteer for and form a commitee to plan the celebration.

(I personally will not be on the committee, and it would be nice if new people, who have not yet had a chance to participate directly in building the charter, would take the lead for this part of the show.)

I  B77!

Jn

This is so wonderful!

:bawl:

I'm leaving town midday the 28th and won't be back until after the Fourth, but I will definitely celebrate while I can!

(I hope I can activate some new members or do some other adminly opening-related work before I go, because when I get back I won't be an admin.)

Thanks to everyone who has been working so hard to make this happen!

 :horse: :toast:  :cheerleader: :cheers :grouphug:

Can I presume, Voronwe, that your distruction of Numenor pic has nothing to do with the auspicious events?

I should not volunteering for anything - as an admin I think I'll be well occupied. But I could wrap up all the birth-of-B77 threads and put them in a read-only forum someplace, because they will interest some historian in the distant future (say, 2006). Let me know when the deliberating is over, and if this even interests you.

Here is something for someone to start who has time to stay on top of an active thread:

A speculation thread on the size of the onslaught, if any, and how long it takes us to get our first banned troll.

Laureanna, that pic came out of moment of doubt, which now seems to be passing. The picture is likely to be changed soon.

I'm also not volunteering for the committee, for the same reason as Laureanna. :)

Except that I promise to attend the ceremonies and be as goofy as only I can be. :Wooper:

I'll help! I'll have legal internet Tuesday, and then I'll be on a lot, until I get a job. :D And I'm very looking forward to opening!

So, who's going to make the post on TORC?

I know I said I wasn't going to volunteer to do anything, but I do plan to make a post on TORC, in the m00bies forum. It will undoubtably not last very long, and will probably get me rebanned, but I don't care about that.

I will not be doing it as a board77 admin, but as a m00bie inviting my friends to check out my new home.

Wow about the planned post on TORC, Voronwe!

Notifying everybody is of course something close to my heart - I hope TORC won't take it ill, although I fear it'll be considered against the rules, even if it's done nicely. :)

(sugaplum mentioned b77 in Events a few days ago and nothing exploded! :Q :D (so far, at least ;) ) )

I'll just notify everyone on my mailing list who isn't here yet, and I hope I can show some people in as a result. :)

LOL, so I'm curious what celebration people will come up with! Fireworks? Painting the boards and hanging garlands everywhere? A band? :D

Heh. Maybe I, and others, will join you.

Or would that be overkill?

I wonder if Ethel will let us advertise on her board. That would get the word out, too.

I could put this in my sig box "Ask me about my new board opening!"

So when are we moving to the www.board77.com site, or is that another hurdle?

I have an email list of several hundred TORCers (mostly gleaned off of emails sent to me by people who like to email jokes to everyone and his uncle). But that would be spamming.

Just one quick word of warning, peoples .... We have these ratification votes to get through. I'm HOPING everything will be ratified, but if the members are really unhappy about something that's necessary for opening we'll have to go back to the drawing board.

So you might want to let the discussion threads run for a few days and see how the wind is blowing before announcing an opening date on TORC.

Moving to board77.com involves a back up of this site, reinstalling on board77.com and a consultant to help devise the other areas that our own site can have, such as a front page, art gallery etc.

In time that will happen, but certainly not before July or even August.

In terms of dates, my personal preference would be precisely July 6th.

Don't ask why, but July 6th.

It would mean more than you know.

Please?

Prim wanted to help register the new members, but her term ends on June 30.

Maybe we could hire her back as a temp admin for the second and third week of July if we wait until the 6th to open?

Or maybe she could do permissions for the people who registered earlier and have not been let in yet, and they could start coming in before she leaves? - but the grand opening would still be the 6th

Ethel won't mind at all. :) I think she'll be happy and will come back for a look see herself.

Re TORC, could we not do overkill? It'll just start bad blood again. A few quiet emails, some mentions here and there and the word will get around without any problems and without having to face old stuff all over again.

And let's wait til the ink is dry, eh?

I would love to help! I came in after invites closed, so it'd be nice to welcome everyone in. :) Besides, I feel I haven't gotten as involved as I would have liked, so I guess this is kind of my chance, eh?
