Friends, as has been said before, while the major portions of the Charter that need to be completed before we open are completed and being discussed and/or voted on currently, there are still a number of important issues that need to be resolved. Among them are determining exactly how the Mayor will be elected, deciding how the Charter can be amended, and even what the Charter itself will be called. In addition the various approved and ratified portions of the text will need to be reviewed for consistency and accuracy.

After having taken a short break (mostly), we will be meeting again to discuss these final issues, and present our proposals on them to the membership for ratification. Several of the committee members have expressed a desire to take a break from the convention. At this point, we'd like to offer an opportunity to former committee members to return for this final leg, or for other members who would like to help out to join the committee to complete these tasks.

If you are interested in joining (or rejoining) the committee, please let me know either by posting here or sending me a PM by Thursday June 16.

Thanks. :)

Voronwe, when will the committee officially convene?

And would it be possible to work in spite of several absences of, say, a week? (I wouldn't object to being left out of votes.)

Or should people who have been here all along take a break on principle, to make room for new ideas? :scratch

I will work on if I'm needed, or make way for new blood as required.

Prim, I certainly hope that absences can be accommodated, since I will be gone most of the first week of July.

My preference is that people who have been in the committee all along continue with the committee, unless they feel they need a break. New blood is definitely always helpful, but there is no replacement for experience. I certainly prefer that you stick with the committee, even if you will be gone some of the time, unless you would prefer not to.

As for when the committee will reconvene, as you know, we never completely stopped discussing things, with Alandriel and Jn in particularly continuing to move things along. I kind of envision the old committee morphing into the new committee over the course of this week, with the new committee officially constituted by Friday. Then we can gently begin discussing some of these final issues over the weekend, with it probably really beginning in earnest at the start of next week. But we will not be working at the frenetic pace that we were working at before we took a break.

I'm still here, too. There's not that much more to finish.

Count me in, then, Voronwe. :)

(I think you rangers might need to consider bringing in a temp ranger or two for that first week in July. We'll just have opened, and with Voronwe gone, there will be only two experienced rangers on tap.)

You don't think I would actually let you leave, do you Jn? People don't realize that you still have done the majority of the behind the scenes work to keep things moving along efficiently even while I was nominally "in charge." There's no way I could have taken on the mantle of "discussion leader" without your active assistance and support.

Eru, yeah. :)

Prim, also yeah :) and good idea.

Voronwe,

As long as someone will take the responsibility to tell me to shut up when I've gone too far, I'll stick around.

I am looking for a break. I think the committee would be better served with someone with fresh blood.

I have no right to do this, but I am going to do it anyway.
I would like to put a name out there as an addition to the committee.
That name would be Mossy. I think she has followed the happenings closely, and has done her part as a member by offering her opinion. I think she would be an asset to the committee and subsequently the board.

So Mossy if you are out there and have the time, step up to the plate because you have what it takes.

I'd be willing to help, now that a definite opening date has been scheduled. Of course I wasn't here for most of the deliberations so that probably makes me a poor choice.

Idylle, I will take great pleasure in continuing to play that role. ;)

Holby, you will be missed. Thank you for your invaluable contributions to the process so far. I agree with you that Maiden would be a great asset if she decided she wanted to join us.

Ethel, it will be an honour and a privilege to welcome you back to the fold.

It would be cool to have you back, Ethel! Just, you know, set aside a weekend when you have nothing to do and read all the threads in the Jury Room. :D

(j/k btw - with the exception of creating a mayor, everything we did in committee built pretty much upon what was discussed by members in Jan. Feb.)

Wow, I'm really quite honored to be nominated. Thanks!

I was thinking of volunteering, and now I definitely shall! I'd love to do my part and give a bit back to the board. :)

You've foiled my secret plan!

(You have to admit, though... it would make deliberations more... entertaining!)
