The opening celebrations have been set for 18 August! We'd love to have as many people there as possible, so if this is a major conflict for people, let us know.

Here's a potential schedule:

20:30 GMT--Party Opens
21:00 GMT--Committe introduces Jn, as Temporary Mayor, who will introduce Alandriel
21:05 GMT--Alandriel will give a speech as founder of the board
22:00 GMT--Voronwe announces results of Ultimate Best Scene in the Films.

I have tried to space things out so that if people can be there for at least part, if not all of the planned events. Please post feedback here or PM me.

Cheers!
The Committee.

Second post:

THE OPENING CELEBRATIONS HAVE BEEN POSTPONED.

You can see the discussion starting on the very bottom of the second page of this thread. A new date has not yet been set. Please feel free to come give any input on this matter.

ALSO. If anyone would like to donate artwork, music, poetry, or anything else to the celebrations, we would love to have your work!

Thanks for your understanding in this matter. We hope it will lead to an even better celebration in the end!

Cheers
The Committee

Original post:

As you can all see by the thread title, the big opening bash is on 6 July! () Pips and I are the committe, and we would very much like your input. If you have any general thoughts or ideas, please reply here. Also, feel free to PM either of us.

The matter I'd really like to bring to your attention is this. Because this is a democratic, all inclusive board, and because we have a plethora of talented people around here, Pips had the idea of using your talents in the party. It would be written into the first post, and if anyone wanted to actually post poems/photos, etc to contribute that would be wonderful! Basically, you would show up in the description of the venue. For example, artwork by Rodia on the walls, sculptures by Tosh about the room. Pips wrote up this sample:

as Pippin climbed on through the dewey grass she saw the starlight glimmering upon a strange form in the distance. She rounded the curve of the hill and realised what it was; an Elven-maiden, swathed in flowing cloth and dancing under the clear night sky. She was perfectly still and cold; a sculpture by Tosh, the hobbit realised. Others Elves appeared as she continued up the rough path, holding small candles in their cupped marble hands, playing silent music, and finally the two gatekeepers.

Any thoughts on this? Would people mind if we used their talents?

In addition, if anyone feels inclined to write up some sort of parody, we would be much obliged! Thanks for your attention and input, and we hope to see you at the party on 6 July. :)

EDIT: Here's the proposed schedule. Any feedback appreciated, as always.

19:30 GMT -- Party thread put up
20:00 GMT -- Pips or I will introduce Jn, as the honoury mayor.
20:05 ish GMT -- Jn will introduce Alandriel, as the founder, who will give us a lovely speech.

After that, we'll just play it by ear. Sound good?

Cheers,
The Committee

I might edit out the part about telling people they can reply in the other thread. Just use the other thread as reference and no replies so as not to confuse and clutter. :)

I already beat you to it. Sorry. :)

Edit: I was already editing the first post to make it a global sticky. But if you want to add that back in, go ahead. That was more then a bit presumptious of me.

I should like to add that by parody we mean something making fun of ourselves - no TORC parody, no history of how we got here parody!

And like I said in the other thread (didn't see this before - announcements, you know ;) ) - I think we need to be damn careful about not excluding people.
I can hardly think of anyone here who isn't creative about something - and those of whom I don't know, probably just haven't said so yet.

How do you want us to contribute material? In our own posts, or in PM's to someone who will place them appropriately?

Voronwe, it's fine. :) Less clutter is always good.

Tosh, from what Pips has said, I'm guessing it would all go into the first post. If you have photos you could add, that would be lovely. :) I'm guessing you would send stuff to us, and we'd place it in the first post along the the description of the place. I'll get Pips in here so she can answer more questions.

Lidless, I'm a bit confused about that thread.
Quote:
So, we're having this big board opening celebration on Wednesday, right... Well, instead of having just a few threads dedicated to that purpose, I had a bit of an idea.

A mid-weekly forum dedication. ...
It looks to me like a proposal to do something instead of the party on July 6 that Maiden and Pips have been working on. Is that correct?

I think what Estel means is that we'll have the one big party that Pips and I have been working on. And then, we'll have mini-parties in all of the forums, like what you're planning for the Hall of Fire. It's not instead, but in addition to.

Ah, Estel posted under the wrong ID. But I think Maiden has it right.

Eeek, you posted my ill thought-out idea. :Q Basicaly I was wondering if I could do a bit of name-dropping just to show what a group effort getting the board open has been. If I'm describing a scene in the first post then it might occur to me who on this board could have the skill neccesary to create the part which I am describing. :)

Any ideas of any sort are welcome. We have a venue agreed on but that's about it. Everything else is subject to change and all contributions are valued *whimper* more than valued. Needed.

Pips, I'm sorry I haven't contributed more to this process but this is one area where I have zero talen and zero ideas.

Just tell me where you want the Mayor to show up, and when, and what to do when she gets there, and I'll make sure she arrives and does what's needed. :)

I like the schedule (and the time of day! ;) ) - can we post between the opening and the appearance of the Mayor?

You can post after the Mayor, too, I hope!

I think the Mayor is only going to introduce the founders of the board and say how extraordinary they are.

Maybe we'll just be struck dumb with awe at the mayor's speech! :P :D

I think there can be a bit of applause between the mayor and Alandriel, but no major interruption.

I just asked because I was wondering whether the thread would be open for posting the minute it went up - I think it should, so people could RP entering the venue and give their responses, but I wasn't sure from how the schedule was formulated. :)

Of course, Hobby! No point in having a party if people can't post in it. :P

The half hour gap is to allow people time to arrive, etc. Afterwards, we'll just let people celebrate and have fun. Go with the flow, etc.

That would be. . . hold on, I should know this.

16:00! :D

So, 15:30 for the beginning, and 16:00 for the Mayor. There we go.

Right? Didn't we have a conversation about this ages ago?

It's 3:30 PM in New York, Hue.

You're going to bring your singing harp, aren't you? (I've forgotten its name.)
