Friends,

If our Article on Election of the Mayor is ratified, a nomination period will open on August 19.

You should be discussing with yourself who would be a good Mayor, and whether you would like to be one yourself.

If anyone is interested, I thought I would turn over this job for a week at a time to ... two or three of you at least before the actual voting begins ... so that you can get a feel for the records that have to be maintained and communicating with Rangers, etc. if you intend to run for office.

The Mayor's Handbook is complete now so you can read up HERE

Volunteer in this thread if you want to practice being a Mayor!

I have to record one more piece of information on Friday (or at least explain to someone else how to do it) and after that anyone can take the reins and be Honorary, Temporary Mayor for a week.

Hooray!!

OK. First question. Can you open jpg files?

(Oh that's a stupid question - I'm sure you can.)

I will email you the list I keep on my hard drive so that you can see how it is set up. Just give me a few minutes to scan it.

The link to the Handbook is above.

The only thing I have to remember to do at this point, and it's VERY important, is to get from the Rangers on Friday, at the start of the next four ratification votes, the number of members active over the past 60 days as of Friday. Then post that number (minus the 15 RP characters) in the Quorum thread. You're welcome to do that if you want.

Well I hope that more than one person will want the office of Mayor. :)

And there is enough time for more than one person to practice. :)

BOY -- YOU REALLY WANT OUT, DON'T YOU!?!?!?

AS THE MAYOR POSITION HAS BEEN STRIPPED OF ABSOLUTE AND DESPOTIC POWER OVER EVERY FACET OF THIS SAD PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A MESSAGEBOARD THROUGH THE WORK OF THE CHARTER COMMITTEE, I NATURALLY HAVE NO INTEREST IN THIS POSITION.

SIGNED,

Ara-anna, it's a picture file.

Instead of sending Eru to actual spreadsheet file, I printed it out, scanned it as it it were a picture, and sent it to her that way.

No reason other than the fact that most people are not able to open Mac spreadsheets on their computer.

If more is required of me than to wear a swell chain, all over gold and large gems, be fed sumptuously at every turn, feted with champagne, given hot and cold running lackeys, I ain't interested. So there.

Maybe next year, when I feel better.

Well, obviously I hope you feel that good next year, vison, but I have no doubt that you could have the swell chain, champagne, and lackeys now if you like, by acclamation. You are after all the queen. :D

Eru has stepped into the suit and is doing us the honor of serving as Mayor.

:cheerleader: :cheerleader: :cheerleader: :cheerleader: :cheerleader:

We have time for at least two people, maybe even three, to try their hand at this before the election actually begin. Seriously, folks, don't be shy. Step right up if you have any interest in the office.

Yes, it lasts for a whole year but there's reallly only 'work' to do about once a week. So the commitment is not that different from being a Ranger in terms of the number of days. And it's more flexible than the Ranger job is ... and easier. No panels to work.

Those of you who are thinking about nominating someone else - tell them so that they'll know! heh-heh

I'd have a go. But I can't remember if there are age restrictions- would it matter that I can't see TOE? That's the only issue I can think of.

:bawl:

There is an age restriction, Pip. I'm sorry. You do have to be 18.

It's not so much being able to see the ToE in the Mayor's case, though that might end up being necessary, but the fact that if we become a member-owned board the Mayor will be the only officer of the corporation because he/she is our only elected office, and for that you need to be 18.

You could be our second or third Mayor though. :) Won't be that long, even though it probably feels like a long time from where you stand.

You signed up for the Jury Pool/ Mediator Pool, didn't you? Right now that's the one thing you can do if you're under 18. And of course serve on committees and vote and such.

That's cool Jyn. :D I just felt really guilty for not signing up, but being underage is the greatest excuse in the world ever. :P

I guess this is a good time to send out feelers to 'prospects' to see whether they'd appreciate (or agree to) being nominated...

Just sending up a flag to let people know they should expect some PMs from me, urging them to consider a life of politics and feasting...;)
