Dear Customer,

We have upgrade(sic) the servers's software & kernel successfully!

If your sites are still running PHP4 powered script, we would recommend you to upgrade to PHP5 based script ASAP.
PHP4 had reach EOL (end of life) since 2009 and no longer supported by the PHP Developer.

Thanks you.
Have a nice weekend!

Sincerely,
MXHUB Support Team
I checked, and we're using php 5.2.16. So we're okay.

Hey, guys!

Leoba is trying to log in. I reset her password for her, but she can't get past our spambot measures. (Mainly, I don't think she can read the CAPTCHA stuff.) Is there a way to reset her number of login attempts or something? What should I do?

Go to Admin Panel -> Manage Users -> type in her username, and press Submit. You can change her password manually, let her know what you changed it to. Then she can log in, then go to User Control Panel -> Profile -> Edit Account Settings, and change it to a password of her choosing.

Oops, I just reread where you already reset her password. Alternatively, you could temporarily disable the spambot measures until you hear from her that she was able to successfully log in, and then re-enable them. You may have lots of bots to clean up by then ;)

Well, what I did was change the CAPTCHA settings to a simple graphic or something. I figure that's pretty easy to read, and I can change it back to something more challenging after she's able to log in. I think she may have gone to bed, though, so we'll be less protected till I get around to fixing it tomorrow morning. I think we'll be all right. In any case, spambots will give me something to do. ;)

Mind you, if I set the captch options so hard that even a legitimate user can't read them, I set them too hard. Maybe we should leave them slightly easier and see what happens - it would be bad if there are lots of other people that can't log in that we don't know about...

I found two today on FB--Leoba and SmaugsBane. I squared them away as far as their passwords went, but Leoba was having issues with the CAPTCHA, too. Don't we have an option to retrieve passwords?

We do - if you log in incorrectly, you'll see an "I forgot my password" link. Mind you, it'll only work if you haven't changed your email since you registered, or you updated your profile when you change your email.

Remember when some stupid spambot was going through the membership list and trying to log in with everyone's account? Whoever was targeted had to pass a "captcha" test because the maximum login attempts had been made on their account. I assume that it had tried out Leoba's account, and that's why she has to go through the captcha.

I've been meaning to tell one of you techie guys that the ACP is telling us that our phpBB installation is out of date. Apparently there's a new version.

I forget if I posted about this on the board before.

Ever since I joined facebook, I can't get to b77. I click on my bookmark, see that the browser is "looking" instead of "waiting", I wait around for a few seconds anyway, and then get one of the "page doesn't exist" type messages. So I click "try again" and AVG (my anti-virus or something) takes me to a page full of search results with the b77 url in them. When I click on b77 from there, it's the error message again. Back and forth until I get pissed off. Though in later months, I only had to keep doing this a few dozen times instead of several minutes. :archer: No, clicking "try again" for ages didn't help. No, refreshing the page over and over again didn't help. Just back and forth between the b77 url and this redirected search page would ever get me to the boards at some point and lemme tell you... not worth it.

But I wouldn't mind knowing what the fucking problem is. I've deleted my browser, updated settings, and gotten add-ons for separate issues but b77 is still the same.

This may be out of my area of expertise, but let me try some troubleshooting:

1. This started happening exactly when you joined facebook? Are the two issues related for sure? Do you leave facebook signed in by default? If so, if you sign out of facebook, are you able to get to b77?

2. What is the exact url of your b77 bookmark? Does it include the "http://"? If it's http://board77.org/, does it make any difference if you link directly to the index page, i.e. index.php ?

3. Does it make a difference if you add a "www." in front? (i.e. http://www.board77.org/index.php)

4. Which browser(s) do you use? At work, there are some sites that I can only find in IE. For some reason, firefox doesn't know they exist and display a "site not found" error.

5. Can you visit other phpbb sites, like TOB and HoF?

I always just type in "board77.org" . Works every time. I keep my auto complete turned off.

I have experienced periodic DNS lookup issues with both board77.org and thehalloffire.net for years. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it always takes both of them out at the same time. It also typically only afflicts computers at one location (home/work/school) at a time. And they always come back a couple days (or sometimes weeks) later. It's been quite a while since the last time I had trouble, though.

Heya, Jude. Sorry for the long response time. I really have been sparing with my visits here, so I kind of just try to stick with one or two subscription updates instead of checking all new posts!

I doubt facebook has anything to do with it, it just bothered me that since I decided to "move" there, I can barely check back to the boards for anything. Even TORC let me do that. :P Conspiracy!

I definitely stay logged in at both places. FB for frequent use, here cuz there's no way I'm typing out my username in addition to all the view attempts period lol. Will see what happens if I sign out of FB though.

http://www.board77.org/ though I'm usually clicking on the subscription updates from my e-mail. I'm sure I've typed http://www.b77.org before, with no change. I also bookmarked a few random posts (ie: specific comments within a thread), and sometimes that gave me better luck! Not lately, however. I'll change the b77 url to include the index part and see what happens next time. :)

4. Which browser(s) do you use?
Firefox. I forget if IE works better but I'll try that next time as well! The thing is, if this AVG is being mean, I can't really turn off an anti-virus just to see the boards. I've only dealt with the redirect on maybe two other occasions, with sites I didn't normally visit and so I don't know what they had in common.

I didn't have trouble seeing HOF last week, before or after I logged in! And I did check out our old phpbb site looking for a moot link heh - I didn't sign in, but I got to the page just fine.

Maria, auto what?
