Alandriel announced today that we've got the backup, and Alatar is currently working on it: link

This means that, we will also start working on the move to our own site, and the legal and technical questions related to it. Members are welcome to give their input:

About the technical issues in the Thread for technical discussion re Board 77

About the move in general in Moving to our own place - member discussion thread

A thread on the legal matters will also be opened, and the link to it pasted here; so will also a Committee thread (read-only for members) be opened in the Jury Room as soon as a subcommittee has been convened.

Having played around with the backup I think we're safe enough to go ahead and move the board.

Also, with the delays and popups we've been getting lately I think we should move sooner rather than later.

If Alandriel can organise a backup I think we should move immediately. Bear in mind, posts made between the time of the backup and the time of the move will be lost.

There's no way around this other than to close down the board once we've asked for the backup and to reopen it once the change has been made.

Is Alandriel around?

We currently have a version of the board built from the last backup at www.board77.com/test so please go check it out!

Since the issue of moving seems to be on a back burner, I've changed this thread from a Global Announcement to a sticky thread.

We can revitalize the threads when we take up the issue of moving again.

Where did we get to in that conversation anyway?

To Move or Not To Move?

When? Where?

I got rather lost - or perhaps the conversation took place off-board. But I'm a little curious to know what's going on.

Imp, the conversation about moving sort of died in the middle of the controversy over the ToE. Now that all the ToE issues seem to have been settled, we should pick up The Move again ... at some point.

But I have the sense that people are just a little bit tired of transacting so much business and solving so many problems. So I've just moved this issue off the high fire on the front burner and put it to simmer for awhile until folks have the energy to take on another BIG task.

Where we left off is (1) we have the domain names that Liddy purchased (2) we know we can back this board up while we move (3) we have to make a swift and coordinated effort to do the move, and have everything lined up at the time when we request the backup, because getting the backup is unpredictable.

So this will be a planning effort ... probably best left until after the holidays.

Thank you Jn. Seems I was not so much out of the loop as the loop ran out of steam.
