Friends, the witching hour is upon us. The hour when we begin making our nominations for the first-ever elected Mayor of Board 77.

Hopefully you have discussed among yourselves who wants to be Mayor and who will make a fine Mayor and we will be ready to roll.

Voting will be done by PM to the Mayor's i.d. , and when nominations close I will be asking two people who are not candidates to help me draft the ballot and count the votes.

Nominations will be open until: August 28
Voting begins on: September 3
And ends on: September 12
Inauguration: September 22

All interested in running for this office can read the requirements of office in The Mayor's Handbook

Voronwe has already made a nomination in the earlier unofficial thread and I will ask him to move it here at his convenience. And if the Rangers would sticky this thread, that would be very nice. :D

Thank you!

[and someone better want this job!!!!!!!]

I nominate Eruname.

Just a reminder that all nominations must be seconded to be effective, and that the nominated person has to actually accept the nomination. ;)

Also, you can only nominate OR second one person. You can not nominate one and then second another, or second one, and then nominate another. At least if I understand correctly.

Thank you, Voronwe!

(And thanks again, Tinwe, for solving the problem.)

Jn

Edit to add: just btw, I have decided that I will not personally nominate or second anyone because of being the acting Mayor right now. I don't know how future Mayors will want to handle this, but I feel awkward running the thread and also making 'endorsements', like I was trying to pick my successor or something.

I wanted to say that up front so that people won't think I don't support them for some reason. There's quite a few members that I would eagerly nominate or second, and Eru is one of them, but I'm not sure just how appropriate it would be for the acting Mayor to do that so I've decided not to do it for anyone.

What is the etiquette on this? Should we PM someone and ask their permission or inquire into their interest before we nominate them?

Cerin,

It probably is best to confirm that the person would like to be a candidate before nominating them. PM or email, I guess.

Hello? Is anyone out there?

I find it difficult, nay, impossible, to believe that not a single other person on board77 thinks that Eru is qualified to be Mayor. Nor do I believe that there isn't a single other person that anyone thinks is qualified for this important job.

:)

I think Eru is doing a fine job as mayor. I should PM her and then maybe she'll get nominated.

TED, I've already nominated her (look up a few posts). It is just a question of someone seconding the nomination.

There. I third the nomination.

I know it is difficult, but there are 22 people that have just returned from a wonderful m00t, and I can almost guarantee their minds are focused elsewhere. We all have m00t hangover or m00t separation anxiety.
Please bear with us.

Its obviously the subwoofer. :Wooper:

I just don't want to see this go down to the last second like the vote on wilko's thread did.

I would've seconded Eru if I wasn't witless from long wandering.

If I weren't. Weren't weren't weren't. :bang:

Proof positive that my IQ took a dip recently. But you try herding Boy Scouts for ten days. One's higher faculties, particularly anything related to esthetics, retreat in sheer self-defense, and one functions in a sort of limbic state, using only the reptile brain.

I expect to recover.

Was that a Sass sm00ch for me?

FYI to everyone ....

Prim has agreed to take over as acting Mayor, starting before the end of this week. She'll bring the nominations to a close, pick two helpers for the Election Committee and start the election.

I've got to be in Boston during that critical period at the beginning of next week and won't have online access. I'll be back a week from tomorrow (night) but if Prim gets the process started it makes more sense to have her see the election through to the end.

I just have one or two more clean-up things to do and then I'll turn the i.d. over to Prim.

Thank you, Prim!

It's been kind of fun passing the Mayor i.d. around. :)

Eru has accepted her nomination  :D

Jny: does that mean we can volunteer you? :D
Just kidding. Have a good trip and come back safely.

... and  to Prim for temporarily taking over and organizing it all!

One question though: is it possible to put an appeal into the first post to the effect that people can volunteer themselves (or was that excluded by the rules? - sorry, it's been another hectic week, my memory is fuzzy). Thing is you see, I (like some others I'm sure) have PMed various people to ask if they would accept a nomination but all of them have been turned down. I don't know all that many people here 'more personally' to just go and whisk off more PMs and 'harrass' them. It would be easier for people to be able to come forward - if that's possible according to the rulebook (which has slipped my grasp  )

Thanks.
