When I save RP threads, I painstakingly save a post at a time, just copying and pasting the text (not the sig etc). It's laborious but do-able. Let's take this discussion over to where it's relevant and dole out copy&paste duty.

I would really like to see this board move forward in its own sweet way. Sure, we have a past. But I'd rather it weren't a millstone round our collective necks. ;)

Ok people! ;)
Has anyone tried to save the webpages directly?
Nice and easy does the job.
On your Windows IE go to File > Save as > and select "Text only" if you dón't want to save graphics, or "Webpage Complete" if you do. :)
Honestly...

And that allows it to be permanently saved even if the page is completely gone from the web?

AFAIK, yes, because you're storing it somewhere offline, i.e. your computer's hard drive. :)

Yes.
When you save it to your hard-disk it copies everything: text, HTML code, graphics, etc... even URL addresses, although no need to say the links will be disabled.
I recomend you to save it as Text only, it needs less storage room and avoids future problem with graphics display. The txt format is standard and will work in any PC or Mac.
You only need to clean up a few bits and pieces once it's saved, I mean, if you don't want to read part of the HTML code.
Here you have an example of Leoba's post on top of this page once it's saved:

You can get read of the text you dont need. Still it's the logical thing to do and far less annoying and tiring than copying and pasting.

It's a good option for me since lately my computer hasn't been letting me copy text from a webpage into a document in a word processing program. I have no idea why.

So basically if you do this, you'll have a whole bunch of different pages saved separately...it's not like you can save an entire thread together...I guess that's when you have to make folders in order to organize all the pages.

Thanks for telling us about this Bre!

Yep.
Once you have all the thread's pages saved in different txt files, copy and paste them onto one big text file - and you have a thread. It takes less time than any other method, let's say selecting and copying page by page (takes longer and graphics can create problems) and IMO it's the safest way, and it's handy to take anywhere since you won't experience compatibility problems.
