I chose Aeolus on their board at first, and then switched to their theme since I use Aeolus on this board. Lemme check though, and see if I can switch back.....

Yup, I can switch to other themes on their board if I want. Well, to Aeolus anyway. They have two options.

HoF did put Aeolus back on their server. I think they did it specifically for me, since I kept complaining about it. The funny thing is, once I got used to their theme I decided I really liked it and kept using it after all. The only problem I still have with it is that it stretches the page for me.

As for b77 - Stella, I really love the picture, and option two reads better. But, well I almost don’t want to say it, but, the color scheme looks an awful lot like HoF. Not that that’s bad - I like HoF - but, well, perhaps a different color scheme would be worth looking at? I like blue myself!

I was just trying to match the pic :P

There are some lovely blue pics as well, from when I did this before. I could go with that instead :)

Let's see what Eru comes up with as well.

There's nothing saying we only need to have one board 77 themed skin

You know, as cheesy as it may sound, I would like to at least see a treatment of the following kind of banner: it should probably read "board77", but could also say "b77", and the letters are inside of a circle, which is in fact the earth, and they're in the shape of islands.

Or maybe it could just be a picture of the earth with a board77 sign over top of it like "Planet Hollywood" does. We're a pretty well-rounded site and you can't get much more general than: The World. :P

I'll try dicking around with Paint haha. I'm only slightly better at that than I am with actually describing things.

Just to show some more examples colour wise. I've stuck with blues and greens, but we can go with anything ;)

I have an idea for something, but who knows how well it will work out. We'll see, I can try to have it done by tonight, but I can't guarantee anything.

What are you doing to change the whole color scheme, Estel? Some sort of color replacer or selective color?

Wow, I just googled stuff about creating skins and downloaded a free template....and saw all the little tiny individual parts. It's gonna be a bit of a job possibly.

Eru - It's a tool I have called "Hue and Saturation" - I use it aaaaaaaalllllll the time. One of my favorite tools. I really should ask *E* to send you my disk so you can try it.

cem - thanks

We could even do a banner type thing like this

and if we got someone who knew what they were doing, creating graphics (which I don't) we could even be as ambitious as doing something like this

Again, not saying we would have to use these pics or these colours - just trying to throw ideas out there and find out what sort of thing people would like :)

I have Hue and Saturation on Photoshop. It's got all the bells and whistles and then some. ;)

I can't say I like the image behind the forums.

I vote for keeping the look simple.

Could the image behind it be an option though? I think it looks quite nice

I just like the image behind the forums cause it's different. We wouldn't look like anyone else. Maybe just to have it behind the forums on the index page only.

I kind of like the idea of the image of the world. Yes, we all came together because of Tolkien, but we don't discuss much Tolkien here. Also, we are a collection of people from around the world.

I do like Estel's idea with the image in the background of the site. I don't imagine it to be too difficult, but I don't remember much HTML anymore.

Actually now that I looked at the code, it might not be hard at all.

We're going to have to have an alternate non-image background for those of us who do not like that sort of thing. I've never liked that sort of thing.

Also, Estel's screenshot only covers about half of the board. Are you all going to want the image repeated (cheesy imo) or horribly stretched to cover it all?

A few thoughts.

Firstly, I'd advise that you find a theme you like and alter it. Designing a theme from scratch is hellishly hard. Even altering Rainy Day to the HoF took me over a week of fairly constant work.

Secondly, I'd advise that we select a couple of people to design the theme and then LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!! The last thing we need is a theme designed by committee.

Thirdly. I agree with allowing a choice of styles here. This is not HoF. We are not trying to create an identity on the Web. We are simply a group of friends in a common room. However, simply for ease of administration, I recommend that we stick to a handful of themes, say 5 at the absolute outside.

Finally, the background image can be done, but it needs careful work. The theme would have to be designed as a "fixed width" theme to avoid stretching. This can cause all sorts of problems at lower resolutions. My advice would be to stick to images in banners or forumheaders.

I will of course give help as needed.

(P.S. Much as it would suit me personally to use the Rainy Day theme as a template, having worked with it already, I suggest we avoid it in order to preserve a seperate identity to HoF)

I agree with not having only one or two themes for b77. I don't know how many HoF has, but it isn't many from what I know. I'm too lazy to change from the default.

I also agree with Alatar on altering a theme rather than creating one, which is one reason I looked into the code earlier. Also I agree on not creating via committee. Too many cooks and all.
