There has been a very short discussion about this in theCalender thread and the Need to talk to a Ranger thread, but it doesn't seem there are any great differences of opinion about this, so I thought the best thing would be for this to have a thread on it's own, for introducing the feature and for collecting people's requests and ideas.

So, here's another nifty thing for your posting pleasure:

You can have a very small pic between your title and your avatar! :D

You can choose from a wide variety of pics that are already available on the b77 admin panel.
In order to see them, you'd have to be an admin, of course, but thanks to our training board, you can be that!

So, what you have to do is: go to the Ranger training board, register and have someone make you an admin.
Go to the admin panel as described here and pick a rank image.
(Thanks to Holby for the link to the phpbber support forum.)

Let the Rangers know which rank image you want by posting in this thread.

You can also make your own rank images!

Make the image, upload it to photobucket (or another album that enables direct linking to pics), and let the Rangers know that you'd like to have this put under your rank!

Have fun! :D

I guess I could just start:

Could a friendly Ranger please upload my old hobbit-rank and assign it to my name? :)

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y141/t ... rankkl.jpg

(I also registered on the training board, so if someone could make me an admin there, that would be great - I'm so curious to see what the board has in store, I never got round to looking when I was a Ranger myself. :D )

Hey, that was quick! Thanks! :D

(Ok, I think before choosing one should consider how the colours of the rank image and the avatar go together. ;) But I love my hobbit rank pic. :) )

Edit: Holby, if there was anything in your post about the rank image feature that makes this thread a problem, please let me know! :)

The new training forum looks spiffy. Is there a thread where you can beg to be made an admin, or does someone just check for new people and do that automatically?

No idea. I would help but I am not an admin there either.

laureanna,

Best to ask someone to make you an admin. I haven't been over there since I finished boot camp.

Did you already register? I'll make you an admin if so.

Laureanna,

There’s a thread about it in the mayor’s forum here. Eru can admin you, or any of the others who are signed up. They should be checking that thread regualrly, I think.

I just asked for such a thread on the training forum, too, laureanna! :D

But, yes, it's probably quicker to ask here. :)

Ok, laureanna. You're an Admin, and a moderator in all forums.

What are the size (both bytes and pixels) limitations on the rank images?

I'll see if I can find info on that. It doesn't say, in the logical place to look...

There doesn't seem to be a size limit on the rank pics that are linked from another site. I couldn't find any documentation stating a size, so I started experimenting, and found that a photo I have on photobucket, which is far too big for an avatar, is not stopped by the system.

It looked stupid, though. My name on top, the words of my rank under that, the BIG photo under that, followed by the smaller avatar pic under that.

The technical support thread for rank images for phpbber.com would not admit that linking to another site was possible, although several people kept telling them it was.

I think it's a glitch in the system that they are not willing to address.

So, basically, you can have two pictures, if you want them. Size the rank image how you like... but please don't make it so big you stretch the page!
