phpbber.com has recently toughened up its TOS again. They say they will delete any board that violates the TOS without notice. Our disaster preparedness on B77 is practically non-existant- so I created another site on phpbber.com where we can go if B77 suddenly disappears some day. :(

The link to the site is EDIT: Site got deleted at some point. It's not there anymore.

The forum structure of B77 has been replicated there, and if you would like to copy some favorite irreplaceable threads there- well, go ahead. :)

However, I must add that this is NOT A COMPETING BOARD. That's why I called it Dunharrow. It's a place to fall back to if our primary lodging comes under attack, not some place that will see everyday traffic.

I hope this helps everyone's peace of mind. :)

Thank you for your attention.

I think we need to post the phpbber TOS so that everyone can read them. :)

How would setting up a new phpbber site help if this one is closed down?

Maybe the "getting our own place" disscusion should continue?

That would be the optimal solution, but one that seems to take forever in implementation.

If phpbber.com shuts down this board, there is no reason they should shut down the alternate one, especially if there are no violations there.

I just wanted to get a link out there, and use the mass emailing system while it was still intact so that we would have a point to go to and then figure out what to do from there if they were to delete us for any of several reasons mentioned in the TOS.

And yes, I did a mass email to all members, so they'd have a link there, if needed.

Did anyone get one? My email account didn't....

I really think they do this more for the sake of doing it since it's required. If one takes a look at the phpbber smileys, there are ones containing profanity and sexually explicit ones.

edit: I did find this. How odd.

The überadmins don't seem to sample the threads at all the sites. Don't know how they could do that really, given the amount of time it would take.

I think something has to be called to their attention, and then the site is closed automatically and some committee kicks in and reads all the evidence.

Since HoF went up ... end of November ... I've visited the support site maybe twice a week, and I've seen two sites closed during that time and another site have pics/threads removed. For the sites that were removed, I don't know the reason why because it's not discussed publicly, but the one that was edited was for neo-Nazi pics and postings.

Seems they're mostly concerned about illegal downloading...copyright stuff, and posting of ads. Those are the sites I've seen shut down.

Though one had these forums: you have babes category, download music, movies, games & softwares.

Seems the admins didn't like the babes section even though it contained no pornography.

I don't think they read all that much or actually give fair thought. They just assume, don't listen, and move on.

edit: Mary...a poster had a picture of Hitler in his avatar. The admins said pictures of fascist dictators are not allowed.

actually, we are more concern with links to illegal stuff (mp3, movies, program), porn site, running other ads network on our free forums, hacking, cracking, serial, keygen, racist, hatred forums, homosexual related.

these forums will normally be turned off immediately without any warning.

discussing domestic abuse, rape, violence, relationship issues, marital may be alright.

we have scripts to auto-check all our free forums. our reviewer team will be triggered by the notice and they will check each forums manually.

warning email would be sent for minor violation.

Confuzzled

That answered some of the questions. It is a start

I am going to disagree with on the homosexuality discussions. That is segregation and is not right. I have a couple of homosexuals members I would not censor them discussing such issues. I feel it is better to read and be informed correctly than to live with preconception that are wrong. Intimate and far too personal I would step in and tell them to do so in PM's or e-mails. Neither would I ban them because they were honest enough to tell me. I don't have a problem with homosexuality, some do that I know.

If you say I have to or can't discuss such things,as I breach the TOC then I ask for an official post that states clearly the prohibition of homosexual issues and the discussion on. Which I will post links or copy of. I would like also an inclusion that states the same at sign up.

Admin

we dont allow any homosexual discussion in our forums. this will be considered as adult content.

Maybe this is the place for intolerance afterall.

He did say some profanity is okay.

I found another thread where a site named "Young and Gay" was shut down immediately because no homosexual discussion is allowed.

That's infuriating.

Thanks for setting this up, MH. It's nice to know there's somewhere to go in case something should happen.

Even if we aren't in immediate danger of getting shut down, it might be a good idea to restart the process of moving to our own site.

We can avoid all of this by using the test board I created from the backup we got a few months back. Its at

http://www.board77.com/test/

Any recent members would need to reapply, but apart from that it's already there, already set up and ready to go. The only thing that would need to be changed is the Rangers as the board is set up with whoever was a ranger at the time, me included.

And its not subject to the PHPBBer TOS cause it's on Lidless Domain.
