For what it's worth - my opinion...

All the giant smileys should go:

:Wooper: and :dragon: and :Duck: and (dear Gawd!) :thewave: - :barfy emoticon:

Also, this guy should go: :D - can you say "shit eating grin"?

And this guy: :) - he just seems so... insincere

But I will never accept getting rid of this one:  It's completely useless to me as a lightbulb smiley, but c'mon! As Mr.bunny's butt it completely kicks... um... butt! :D

Oh, and those red-eyed devil smileys can go.

My 2 cents...

:) no, let's use
:( vs. :bawl: We need a smiley that's just sad and not crying. And I don't like the blue bawler. It's slightly ridiculous, more something I would use if I were mock-sad.
 and  I'de like to replace both of them with =:)
:!: This one can go. A ! is a !.
 I think some people like it...
:blackeye I feel nothing for it (always wondered about what it was...)
:damnfunny Yeah, it's cute. I like it.
:freak: Kinda awful
:Duck: No, no, let's keep it!

:doh1:  I prefer the first one. Love the staring eyes.
:toast: :drunk: I don't think these two are quite the same. The second one is more of a let's-celebrate-and-sing-and-get-drunk-smiley, while the first is just "cheers". Prefer the second one. =:)
:eh: :suspicious: Prefer the second one.

It's not on the list, but: :cheers must live!

I also think these can go:

:dragon: :thewave:

Just to help this along, I've categorized the smilies as follows:

Happy / Funny
 :D :)  :sunny: ;) :damnfunny  :LMAO:

Prodding
:poke: :P:funny: :blackeye

(Pretend) Innocence
:halo: :twisted::devil: =:) :whistle:

Help
:help:

Unhappy
:(  :scratch po'ed :bawl: :bang:   :rage: :x :eh: :freak: :nono:

Embarrassed
 :o :doh1:

Surprised
:Q :!:

Celebration / Hugs
:toast: :thewave:  :drunk: :cheerleader: :cheers   :grouphug:

Sundry
:horse: :spam: :Duck: :dragon: :Wooper::idea:  :tired: :suspicious: :confused:

As you can see, there are many redundancies there. If people want to use this template to split into keep / throw, be my guest.

We definitely need a woot! smiley and a WTF smiley.

The wink smiley needs to improve. Oh God does it need to improve!

Sorry Lidless, but I don't see it the way you do. We don't have that many redunancies. Each have their different uses.

Just to make this clear: These two smileys will both be going ( :) :D ) when this smiley is fixed :  But for the meantime which one do you prefer to keep? :) or :D

:Wooper: and :dragon: won't be going since too many people like them.

:thewave: this one was requested by someone and has been used around the board, but I suppose we could have a vote on whether we should keep it or not.

I'm going to wait a few more days so that more people can post their opinion before I go getting rid of some of the smileys.

Eru,

Over and above your list, here are other duplications I see. I really can't tell the difference between them:

Happy / Funny
 :damnfunny :LMAO:

(Pretend) Innocence
:halo:

Unhappy
:x :rage:
(I just happen to prefer the old TORC red smiley, but either way both shouldn't be around)

Surprised
:Q

Celebration / Hugs
:cheers :toast:
and
:cheerleader:

PS - The name's Steve, apparently. I hear 'Lidless' is a redundancy. :P

:( :bawl: personally I find the yellow ones cuter, and I would at least keep the sad smiley since it's a whole different emotion

:D :)  :!:  Don't think we need those anymore

:freak: Agree to get rid of this one

:thewave: Like this one a lot, but I can live with it if it should go

:Duck: This one though... would be hard to see it go (and LOL Leoba!!!)

:damnfunny I like this one

:eh: :suspicious: Like them both

:toast: :drunk: :cheers Like them all

:doh1:  Like them both

That's why I was thinking we could get rid of this one at least :damnfunny: Though lots of people are liking it.

Not quite the same in my eyes, but I see your point.

I only added the TORC one recently because it seemed like people were wanting to have those...personally I'd rather not have the mad TORC once since the others are so much better.

I agree we could get rid of one...it's just that I've seen both used extensively.

Been discussed in this thread and people don't think they're the same, but it's looking like we may get rid of the :toast: one.

Sooooooooo not the same thing!! :Q Come on, you know the context this guy's used with :

I don't think we need to be as strict as TORC regarding the addition of smileys. I like the fact we have a few more to choose from, ones that might be closer to expressing the right emotion.

I like the banana one. It looks like a Chinese durex in action.

I don't mean to be impatient, but what's the problem with keeping a few more smilies than we need?

I think people have basically agreed on getting rid at least seven or eight smilies. Isn't that enough?

Personally, I like a bit of variation.

(And I had no idea there was a context for the banana :Q )

No - would we have seen dancing bananas there?

(Ok, don't answer that one! :Q  )

Aggs just doesn't like bananas. Oh please Keep:  :bang:   =:) :rage:

The rest I'm not particularly bothered about.

Though I really don't like the Phpbb one when it comes to winking: ;) it's too small.

As an alternative for a wink smilie I prefer the Yahoo IM one, but I know others prefer the MSN one.

:Wooper: Err why did we have this?

Ooops, Leoba I hadn't seen your post - thanks for the hint - I see why it's "special" to Ags.

Edit: if we do have to get rid of a laughing smiley I'd choose this one: :damnfunny - it's cute, but it looks a bit like it's taking a bow and the others are funnier.

Oh, and I wanted to say that I noticed our proportion of happy vs angry smilies is more on the happy side than on TORC - and I guess that's a telling sign.

Well, tastes differ. Personally, I believe the :cheers smiley is definitely among the ugliest I've ever seen, but I'm fine with keeping it (and all others too).

I do agree though that we need a "WTF?" smiley and a "w00t!" smiley. Here are two random ones to consider:

ROFLMAO!!!!! Wildwood on crack...no kidding....

:LMAO:

Let's keep this guy! :Wooper: He's so...out of place. I'd kill the duck and dragon though.

I've done a bit of cleanup, but there are some that I don't think we have a good consensus on so I'll probably start individual threads just so it's easy for me to tell what people want.
