The burgandy sticks out a bit too much for me too...I like the idea of an accent color, but not that heavy of an accent, so to speak. ;)

The pink tinge in the sky is nice...sort of a 'new dawn' theme. :P

I think the only way an accent color that doesn't stick out too much is going to work is by using a light color. You can't do dark subtlely unless everything else is mostly dark as well....or the dark is neutral. It's easy to do a color that "pops" on a painting as it can be very natural looking. But a color like that on a message board template...well then you'll probably get something garish.

Saying all that, it would have to be a light pink for an accent color...and I really don't want any pink on it. :P I'm sure a lot of guys would agree! :P

Okay, added a pink tone...two different ways:

Here's the original coloring:

With a soft pink gradient set on overlay (retains the darks):

gradient plus added a touch of red with the color balance:

I think I like the second one the best. It warms and brightens the pic, but not too much.

I also added a deep magenta drop shadow to the text.

Adding some pink to it was a good idea Estel. :)

I like the second one as well, the pink gradient makes for a lovely effect in the banner, but it doesn't make it too light, like the third one seems to do.

Plus, I don't feel like the third one matches the blue of the actual message board all that well.

Here's another pic possibility...it's less subtle than the one I've been working with, but still just as pretty, if not moreso. The blue of the message board will need to be tweaked though:

Ooooo, I like that last one the very best - with the new piccie. It seems much more homelike. Like coming home after a long journey, and seeing the lights in the distance..... better to come home to a place where the lights are on and someone is waiting for you ;)

It's a much warmer and more cheerful pic, without being too bright.

I like the picture but I'm wondering if I'd want to see that bright one all of the time. It's easy to make both of them up and then let people choose which one they like best to implement.

Just to let everyone know, I'm flying to England this Friday so I probably won't have much time to work on this this week and definately won't be able to work on it whilst in England. I'll really pick it up once I get back.

I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map, And knew that somehow I could find my way back; Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too - So I stayed in the darkness with you

When are you guys going to move forward with your skin ideas?

I was watching with envy while Eru and Estel were presenting their designs, and then the whole thing sort of fizzled.

Lot of work done already. It's a shame to waste it.

I vote for the second one. It's got a good contrast between light and dark.

I choose to ignore it, Al. It's just asking for a fight.

I still like Erus second picture.

I'm definitely still up for changing it. :) The thing is, I have no idea how to do it. But now that Eru is a Ranger--and since she's been designing many of the ideas along with Estel--maybe she knows how to do it?

I'll go play around with things on the Ranger training board (if it still exists, I'm not even sure it does!) and see what I can turn out.

ETA - The Ranger Training board does not exist any more, as it turns out. I'll see what sort of things I can do on the b77 Admin panel without actually changing anything on the boards yet.

I don't care if it's rude, it's an honest question.

I think you should definitely move forward...I like the ones with the bit of pink added, too. And incorporating Al's idea of having the title added to the picture (to avoid having to scroll down for the posts.)

Eru, you've gotten VERY good at this! ;)

The skin can't be customized from the Admin panel. That has to be done from the Control Panel. You can add a banner from the Admin panel but I think that's the only thing.

Alatar and Whistler invested a lot of time customizing the HoF skin, but that was because the rest of us who worked on it had a bucketload of ideas but no artistic or technical knowledge ... and we were doing it on this program for the first time, so I recall that Alatar had to hunt for some of the specification locations on the Cpanel.

Even then, it only took us about a week of focusing on that to get it done.

It would probably go much faster for you guys because you could mock up your options in photoshop (you have people here who can do that and we did not, except for Whistler and Eru) so the work wouldn't fall on so few shoulders, and Alatar or Jude (whoever it is that has access to your Cpanel) would not have to involved with the very tedious clickety-click stuff until the very end.

I vote for number two. Your ideas are wonderful and it would be great to see them put into action, if someone has the know-how.:)

Thanks Jn! I'm a bit dense with all of this, I have to admit. ;) I don't have Photoshop myself, nor the skills to do it. But I'm happy to help with whatever tasks I can do!

I really like Eru's second design on this page still, and I'd be all for implementing that one. I don't want to lay the burden all one one person's shoulders, though...does anyone have any ideas for how we can split up the work?

I can do whatever I need to. Just point me in the right direction. I love the design, Eru! (My PhotoShop skills are not worthy!)
