I'd love to see one. Spiritual, not religious. :Wooper: ....although I personally like hearing about religions, so I'd welcome religiosity. It could be a place that welcomes all to share about what goes on spiritually in their daily lives. Kind of like Turf, but with more of a "sacred", respectful feel, ie, a largely spam-free place (if that's possible):P.

If most think the idea redundant, then forget about it. The idea just hit me like lightening, that's all. :D

I don't think it's a bad idea, Lego; I'm just not sure how to proceed. (I mean, I know how to start a new forum; I'm just not sure that the board as a whole would want it or deem it necessary.)

???

Suggestions, folks?

*agrees with Borry*

I don't think it would get used enought to warrant its own board.

Seems like the Symp might be a better place for it, if the thread was to have a more "serious" feel?

Hall of Fire has a separate forum called "Tol Erresea" for spiritual matters and it gets quite a bit of use - but HoF has a different posting style than B77. You might want to check it out, Legolas and see if that is the sort of thing you had in mind.

The Symposium here reminds me (a bit) of Manwe on TORC--a mix of religion and politics.

HoF has separate forums (fora?) for those topics.

So it seems to be a preference type of thing. As I said, I'm happy to do it, if the majority of people think it's a good idea.

I mean, it doesn't hurt anything to start a new forum, but, as people have said, threads can be started in the Symp, too.

We recently did a tidy-up of the board to reduce the number of Fora. Even now, I think we probably have too many for the active membership here. I don't see any reason to add another for something that would have limited interest. Just my 2c.

Nah, I think such threads belong in Symposium. Our Symposium isn't even that debate-heavy, really, so I see no prob with such discussions happening there.

Another thing I would add is that it's very difficult to know how to moderate such a forum to preserve the desired feel (or even what the desired feel should be.) I know that HoF went through a lot of "growing pains" early on, trying to figure out what sorts of discussions should take place in TE, including what level of "protection" should be given to members' expressions of their personal spiritual/religious views (ultimately, it was found unworkable to provide any additional level of protection to those views.)

Frankly, I think it's entirely unworkable to have a forum that truly functions as a "safe space" for people to express their religious/spiritual views without fear of disagreement or criticism, unless the forum is confined to members of one religious denomination, or agnostics only, or atheists only. And even then it might be difficult. And, so long as disagreement and criticism are allowed, then a new forum seems redundant, as those threads could fit into the Symposium. (I think the LBL/TE distinction on HoF works, since it's now established - but I don't think it's necessary here, and judging from the initial fireworks there, it'd probably be more trouble than it's worth.)

I'd be happy, however, to provide you with your very own smilie, in honor of your recent adventures at home.

That's a revisionist smilie. A purist smilie would have two frightened faces, not just one.

This is a Tolkien forum. Perhaps it's Ungoliant and Finwe.

:D
