So I'm guessing the phpbb site is back up and we could actually get the software?

I think it would be fine if you set it up. You have knowledge that most of us don't have.

I imagine even with the free version, when we've got our own backup capacity, we can upgrade easily...

Another thing...ghost and move would be easiest. Once the board is up, people can start moving over the threads they want, or ghost them. Gradually, a few volunteers could probably bring the inactive threads over...and no big problem.

About that...anyone know much about the TORC Extractor? Apparently someone got it working...not sure if it's Lurea's ex, or someone else. If anyone has the savvy, either twitching that program, or making something similar would Greatly ease transfer of threads.

Ok, after a few hours of searching I think I found a good host.

LunarPages seems to have the best reviews as well as good bang for the buck.

I think we could go with the lowest level of "Shuttle".

$7.95 a month
1Gig of space (plenty for a phpBB site)
40gigs of bandwidth (also plenty)
Online control panel
Fantastico Script Library (easy phpBB install plus other goodies)

Looks like a great place to start with room to grow. From the reviews I have read they don't have much downtime and has great customer support.

So that is my suggestion.

Good?

Steve?

Well the name of the company is fitting for this group of moonshots.
Seems awfully cheap, a good thing btw. How about email addresses etc?

Ok so I'm a dope, and clicked on the other link.
Sounds like it has the features we need.
Does MySQL database mean we can have a search function?

phpBB search works fine on pretty much everywhere besides TORC.

Works here and on my board.

You guys know me. You'll know that I'll jump and pay for everything.

But I also realize that emotionally it's important that people feel part of B77 - that they directly own the board - shareholders as it were.

With that in mind, I'll set up some PayPal thing where everyone can put in, say USD 10 a year or whatever we come up with. The amount won't be set. But only if they want to, and no shame if they don't.

If there's any surplus, we can use it for perhaps an expert web designer / consultant to help out here and there. Something like that. If it turns out such help is not needed, any surplus can go to charity or even help pay for m00ts.

What do you think?

That would be really much appreciated Steve. I was paying a regular $5 per month in the other place, plus regular gifts of between $10 and $60 (I am a mug - I have a handle and everything) so it would barely be noticed, with the exchange rate being so sweet right now.

Fully agreed, Steeve.

I paid between one and five PMs even in difficult times.

I'll be there.

Count me in as well. I had 3 pms of my own at some point + some occasion gifts. It will not be a problem at all for me to pay a monthly amount. This place is more than worth it. :)

I can easily contribute, and I would be glad to.

I like the idea of having the extra go to moots and such...it'd suck since I probably will miss most of them, but still, it's a good cause.

*snicker* maybe we could have a board of directors to decide what we do with the money...

So are we cool on the host?

Should we go forward with this?

I shamefully admit I haven't seen this thread before; don't know how that happened!

So...thank you Squiddly for all the work, the time and your willingness to share expertise! Your techie qualifications absolutely floor me (ie I can't understand half of those terms but they sound so damned impressive! :Q )

Thank you Lidless and Estel for forking out and hosting; it's not just money, you know (though Steven seems to belittle his own generosity) it is the good will which is so appreciated.

I don't know whether I can contribute; I will try.
