people are talking about it, I'm just posting the poll.

I vote yes, that way everybody wins... you all can ban me and be happy again, and I can leave b77 knowing my whole time here has done some good.

Voted no, despite my misgivings over the whole bloody thing. The charter is what's allowing the Rangers to try and work for some sort of normalcy on the board right now, despite the fact that we don't all agree or have a clear idea of what should be done.

Voted no. This above all has proved that we need a fair structure in place. Even when we have one people are accused of arbitrarily ganging up on others.

I voted no. We are the people who run B77 and we need a structure, even though it is over-written.

I think that there should be room to amend it if necessary but I don't see any reason to start from scratch.

No point in voting in this poll - the options don't give any middle ground.

If there were such an option, I would vote No, don't scrap the charter.

Is anyone going to eat the croissant that TheMary left on the ground?

If nobody else wants it I'll have it.

I didn't say anything right away, hoping it would go away, but could we stay on topic please?

I know that a lot of people worked on it and I believe that every clause was voted on by the membership at the time. I don't remember exactly who was involved in the writing of it, though.

I don't think we should scrap the charter at all, but I do think that it could stand some amending to make it more flexible.

I don't remember who all was involved in it beyond Fixer, maybe Voronwe, Prim, Jnyusa, ???

That was tried back in the day, Lali. I spear-headed it. Got little support aside from a few. Led to me taking a hiatus from this place. I would not suggest to anyone to lead another campaign. Too many cooks.

These are people specifically listed in the Directory of Charter Convention threads:
Quote:
Alandriel, Alatar, Alassante-Estel, Anthriel, Axordil, Cerin, Din, Eruname, Ethel, Faramond, Farawen, Holbytla, IdylleSeethes, Impenitent, Jnyusa, laureanna, Leoba, LordMorningstar, MaidenoftheShieldarm, Nin, Primula_Baggins, Silwen, TheLidlessEyes, TORN, truehobbit, Voronwe_the_Faithful
but everyone had a chance to comment. Look through some of the threads in the Historical forum and you'll find lots of people giving their input:

http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewtopic. ... um=board77

Not to mention none of the charter could have been ratified with out everyone being given the chance to vote.

Thanks, Eru!

Yes, I do remember voting.

I think what has happened is that, after some time of practical application, we can see areas that could be tweaked. That process is difficult, however, and that is another problem, imo. I mean, it shouldn't be too easy, but it shouldn't be as difficult as passing a US Constitutional amendment either.

But I do know how hard everyone worked on the charter, and it has proved very useful time and time again. So it's not that the charter sucks or needs to be scrapped or whatever. I wouldn't vote for that.

I would support implementing some more flexibility in it and perhaps a bit more (just a bit!) power for the rangers. So much of the charter was written in direct reaction to the arbitrary and unfair bannings at TORC. That has hindered the rangers from being able to do some things that, from time to time, would've been wise for the board as a whole.

(As you can tell, I'm being very frank here. Beyond caring!)

But that's just my opinion.

Lali, I think your post overall is quite mild. I agree that the charter could use some tweaking, but that is a far cry from voting to chuck it out or keep it the way that it is NOW forever. Even governing documents need to grow and breathe and become flexible enough to be useful without becoming tyrannical.

I am sort of a pure democratic sort of person here, I think that what the majority expresses an opinion on maybe does need to be looked at in terms of proposing changes and then taking the appropriate voting measures.

Maybe a new thread needs to be started that addresses members' concerns with the current charter and what they themselves would like to see added, deleted, or changed?
