We gotta move. It's only a matter of time before the board goes down again.

It's easy to forget when it's actually been working for a while!

So I guess the question is: will civ0 be true to their word and let us take our domain name with us?

Especially since civ0 no longer exists and we are with the aptly-named NoeClue?

Is it an easy thing to move a domain name?

Does it make sense to let HoF go through their move first so we can learn what if any pitfalls might be ahead of us?

That's what I thought, but Voronwë says their move will be delayed:

The HoF move has been somewhat on hold, mostly because I'm been too busy doing revisions on Arda Reconstructed for my March 1 deadline to get the final manuscript to the publisher to look into it. Plus, until now things have been going relatively smoothly for a little while. I hope this latest error message isn't a harbinger of more problems. It might make sense for b77 to go forward now, if the goal is to not have the two sites moving at the same time.
So we might as well go first - we can be the guinea pig!

I'm with Jude. It's easy to forget that we need to move when things are working well, but we know we need to.

What should the next step be?

If this were church, we'd have to have a nomination in a business meeting with a second. Then we'd have to discuss it. Then we'd vote on it (perhaps by secret ballot); afterwards, a Server Switching Committee would be formed to determine what to do. A year later, we'd have some kind of answer, including, quite possibly, "The best decision is to wait and see."

So let's not be like a church. Figure out what needs to be done by whom, and then let's decide quickly.

My two cents,

Lali

Okay. I nominate Lali to do everything.

You walked right into that one :poke:

 Why should the messageboard be any different than real life? :blackeye:

Uh, I guess we can get a group together to look at what is out there, what our needs are, and reliability versus cost. There seem to be several highly rated phpbb/mysql platforms out there that run well under $15.00 US a month - a BARGAIN PRICE at today's exchange rates!! :blackeye:

I just did a rather cursory search and came up with multiple sites that rated such hosts and give all info we would need, once we KNOW what we need/desire.

For example, my search brought up this site:

We've let this slip by the wayside.

Do we still want to move? Or should we wait until the next outage happens? I haven't had an error message in a while. Do you think our hosts have reformed?
