Failed sending email :: PHP ::

DEBUG MODE

Line : 234
File : emailer.php

----------

This comes up all the time now. I noticed the same thing on HoF, which uses similar software and hosting as far as I know.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

Brian -

As far as I know, this issue started about three days ago, but your posts do go through, you are just not brought back to them. Yes, we are looking into it, but, as far as I can tell, it is an issue with our host, Noeclue, and something that we cannot remedy for the moment. There are also issues with people not being notified by email for post updates or pm notifications when they are subscribed to do so, it is all related. Alatar volunteered to look into it, but so far, we have no news one way or the other to report. Hang in there, and DO let us know if any new issues or problems crop up.

Seems to me that its the same issue. When you reply to a thread that someone is "Watching" it tries to send an email to them and fails. Thats why you get the mail error.

Apparently the presious hosts, or one of their clients were using the server as a spamming machine. As a result, the current administration have locked down mailing pretty securely. They recommended on HoF to create a mail address on the Board77 account which I have done. Its rangers@board77.net and is hosted locally. Now I'm no longer getting errors when I use the "email" link, but they still don't seem to be going, and the Topic Reply error is still happening.

Not that I've heard. Anyone want me to look into hosting from my buddy here?

The HoF move has been somewhat on hold, mostly because I'm been too busy doing revisions on Arda Reconstructed for my March 1 deadline to get the final manuscript to the publisher to look into it. Plus, until now things have been going relatively smoothly for a little while. I hope this latest error message isn't a harbinger of more problems. It might make sense for b77 to go forward now, if the goal is to not have the two sites moving at the same time.

How much does our disc space increase from month to month? Our 348.96MB seems dangerously close to the 500MB max of the basic package.

Well, we've accumulated 340GB in the last, what, 5 years? And we're a hell of a lot less active now.

I reckon it will take at least 3 years to hit the cap, which is a lifetime on the Web. In 3 years, the disk space will probably have been increased anyway, and if it doesn't, we can always move again, or just pay what extra we have to.

Of course, there's lots of other hosts out there, so if anyone else wants to get prices?

The "Personal Mini" package sounds good to me.

Also, on TOB Prim kindly posted some hosts with good reputations:

I've found him to be good, yeah. Hardly any outages and quick response when we had a problem, even if it was because we hacked through an exploit of our own making.

But just to be clear, I am not recommending him if I'm gonna get blamed every time there's a glitch! ;)

Oh, I think a scapegoat should be included in the price of the package. ;)

Seriously, it sounds good to me, but I have no clue really.

This reminds me of the time that I went to a party armed with lots of puns to fire off at unwitting strangers, hoping to make them laugh. No pun in ten did.
