I just made a trial forum, to see if the freebie forums work better, and it certainly seems to.

Here's the link:
http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/index.php?mforum=btrial

It's really fast, and the only error I've gotten so far is the "You cannot make another post so soon" one.

edit: it's full of advertisements, though. Maybe that's why it works better, maybe showing ads to people pays more than hosting messageboards, and thus gets better support?

How ironic - the board was down again for about an hour this morning, once again because of the MySQL server.

Still haven't heard anything on my support ticket.

And - biiiiiiiig surprise - it took me four attempts to get this simple post through, resulting in a quadruple-post.

Just in case it's not clear, when I said "biiiiiiiig surprise", I was being sarcastic. The implication being that I was not surprised at all. You see, sarcasm involves saying the opposite of what you mean, just to make a point. For example, saying, "Yeah, that was really generous of you", when your attribution of generosity to the addressee is meant to inform him (or her!) that he (or she!) was not being generous at all.

I hope that clears things up around here.

These server time-outs are annoying, but they do wonders for your post counts.

I wonder if Alatar was right when he suggested that fixation on post counts was a form of compensating for something else.

I don't know but now I'm getting a white warning page with mysql errors on it at both boards. :(

I don't even hold out hope that this post will go through.

I had to log in again today, and when I did, it looked like there were no new posts, so I have to go a-hunting.

I've had that problem the past month or so. I thought that it was my system being wacky, so I never gave it much thought.

I've had similar problems and would not be opposed to a move.

No response yet from NoeClue.

Are they even trying to keep their customers? I don't understand them at all.

The phantom page in "Tuna" is really starting to get on my nerves... That NoeClue haven't responded smacks of disrespect for the customer.

The "phantom page" thingie is one thing we can't blame on NoeClue - it's a phpbb phenomenon that seems to turn up from time to time in random threads.

Ah, ok. I've never seen it on any vbulletin or proboards forum though...

Jude-

In the months that I served as Ranger and we had serious issues with the board, I was in contact with *E*, and nobody to my knowledge ever received a direct response back either. Whoever they are now, they do not want to communicate.

I looked them up, and it looks like vbulletin.com is actually a messageboard software, not a host. That is, they're an alternative to phpbb software. Even if we were to convert our messageboard to vbulletin, we'd still need to find a host to... well, host it. :D

*keeps looking*

So, I'm looking at mxhub. All reviews seem good.

Thoughts?

It looks good to me, but I am less than knowledgeable about website hosting. :) Do we know how the numbers (bandwidth, web space) compare to what we currently have with NoeClue? Looking at the pricing page, it seems like we would want the HubONE service--which comes with a free domain name, 2000 MB of web space, and 80 gigs of bandwidth. Does anyone know if this sounds similar to what we currently have? I doubt we have enough traffic to necessitate a larger package, but maybe I'm underestimating. The price seemed quite reasonable, less than $200 for 2 years of service. I think this comes out to less than the annual fee that we paid for NoeClue, although *E* would know for sure.

I think it was about $160 but I forget if that was US or Canadian moneys.

Sorry for not replying, even if in PMs, to some posts here that may have been asking for one. Guess I don't really know what to say about the subject. :) Or at least where to start on it haha.

It's $155 USD per year. Last year's invoice was dated 11 August 2007, but we haven't received this year's invoice yet. Perhaps they're just as lackadaisical about sending out invoices as they are to respond to support tickets?
