I'm in the process of transferring the files and data, and right after that will look at transferring the domain.
It could take anywhere from 24 hours to 5 business days for the domain to propagate through the internet. During this time, you might want to save all your posts onto your hard drive, and then check afterwards to see if they survived the move. Because as the domain propagates, some people browsing to board77.net could be looking at the old server, and others could be looking at the new server.
I'll post announcements as I do each step:
1. Final backup of data
2. Uploading backup to new server
3. Initiate the domain transfer
It may be that when the new domain takes hold, we could end up with a non-functional board, because I don't seem to be able to test it until the domain points to it. I've sent a message to mxhub to see if there is any way to test in advance, but I suspect the answer is no.
If that happens, I'll try to fix things, and if I'm not able to do so speedily, we can always point the domain back to noeClue while we figure out our next step. At worst, we'll suffer a few days of downtime (which is no worse than what we've been experiencing with noeClue anyway). At best, the new board will be functional from the get-go, and we'll lose a few posts (apart from those of you that were paying attention and repost their messages
).
If you log on one day and get an error page instead of the regular board, here's where you can check for updates:
Thread on TOB: "B77 or Hall of Fire or TORC down?"
We have a special thread on TOB where we can discuss technical problems while the other boards are down. I suggest you bookmark this link
now, because if Board77 isn't working you won't be able to come here to find "that link that Jude posted".
Wish me luck - here's to a smooth transition!
