We're experiencing technical difficulties with our user registration system :help:

The instructions say to add new members to "All Members" and "All Emailees", and the permissions of the user group should take over. But I'm wondering if someone flipped a switch somewhere or inadvertently changed the settings so that it no longer works like that.

I've noticed that until yesterday, all our latest new members have never made a post. One or two may be a coincidence, since often people register on a board, and then forget about it. But as it seemed to be consistent, I began to wonder if our registration system was broken.

Yesterday we actually heard of one new member who couldn't post. He had been added to both usergroups, but I checked his User Permissions, and they were all turned off. I turned them on manually, and he was able to post.

Is there anyone who was involved in setting up the registration system originally? What should I be looking for to fix this?

Thanks! :help:

See, I am trying to remember the trick to this. If you go and look at permissions for a poster we know is able to post (I picked Dawnnamira), you will see that her permissions are all off.

You are not supposed to turn on individual permissions; it's supposed to be controlled under Group Permissions.

That being said, and all things look right in there, I don't know why PA couldn't post.

I picked you and yov at random, and all permissions are turned on for both of you.

And then I checked Alatar and Wolfie. Alatar's permissions are turned on, but Wolfie's are not.

I would really like to hear from anyone who had a hand in setting things up in the first place :help:

Permissions off are normal and Prince Alarming has posted since.

Individual permissions are not supposed to be set on, only group permission. Actually, we had quite a work to do to put them all off, back in the dark ages.

I don't think that anything is wrong with the settings : Prince Alarming has obviously posted now.

Yes, but he was only able to do so after I had turned his permissions on.

I wonder if we could ask him if he'd mind if we experimented. We could turn them off again and see if he could still post, since he is a part of All_Members and All_Emailees.

If you don't mind, I register a new ID.

I'd call it Try77

The email is automatically generated. It probably went into your spam folder.

This is my work mail, I don't even think it has a spam folder I hardly ever use it for anything non scholar.

I found and checked it: empty...

Does your workplace have an e-mail filtering system to which the activation mail could have stuck?

I'm having the same problem with the family board I set up ... Group permissions are supposed to override individual permissions but for select members (selection criterion unknown) they do not.

Because it's such a small group I just set everyone's individual permissions manually and that solved the problem, but you don't want to have to do that when you have 300+ members.

php is in the middle of some kind of upgrade and I think this might be causing the problems.

Just thought I'd let you know that you're not alone, and as far as I know it's not because you've done anything differently from before.

Ah, thanks, that was one of my guesses - that a new version of phpbb didn't properly set the right priority between group and individual positions.

I guess that means we'll have to set new members' permissions manually until this is sorted out.

Nin, I'm pretty sure that the activation email got swallowed by your work's spam filter. So I activated the account manually, and added it to the All_Members group, but didn't touch the permissions.

Can you try making a post with that account in this thread? If that doesn't work, see if it can view the forums that are supposed to be member-only, such as Forum Management and Bike Racks.

Thanks! :)
