 Sounds a bit like invasion of posting rights or something to me. Should the rangers have that much power?

When posters have been begging for more than two years that two or three other posters please ignore each other..... and they don't......

It's better than banning, basically :suspicious:

But it ain't gonna happen anyway. Just wishing that it could  ;)

It would be nice, but it's only a hop step and jump away from editing other people's posts all the time...

But Rangers already edit posts. Not often, obviously, but it still happens. So if the situation is bad enough, why couldn't the ignore button be enforced, just like a ban or confinement?

I mean it's only a hop step and jump from editing anything that annoys the ranger. Sure, some people are being annoying, and forcing them to ignore each other would help, but it just feels... wrong, somehow...

It doesn't seem any more wrong than confinement or banning, IMO. It is something that shouldn't be done lightly and without deliberation, just like confinement and a banning.

This is all purely hypothetical, so I guess it doesn't matter, though. :P

It also does not address any problems, it simply tries to hide them.

Well, if someone is confined, they can still read other people's posts, can't they? If they're banned, then I assume they're banned for breach of rules. But being forced to ignore someone could potentially lead to a situation where a poster could say just about anything about another poster, and because that person is forced to ignore, and everyone else is ignoring anyway, then some real attacks could go unnoticed.

I think that the main objection I have to it is that it's a sort of a 'nanny board' thing. We are all, I believe, adults. This would seem too like separating naughty children because they can't decide who stole who's chocolate bar.

Yeah, I have... Until a few days ago, I had to, remember? ;)

It would just feel wrong. I can't really put it any clearer than that I'm afraid. :)

Well, I wrote out a big long post for a thread in what I think was 'sensitive info', and when I hit the post button, I'd already been deranged, so I don't know if it went through or not, and this was just as things turned nasty...

Damn. Obviously didn't go through so, as I was deranged. I should have pointed out that my term was over after I'd read all the new posts, not before. :blackeye:

It's moot anyway, because Rangers can't get into anyone's controls like that to force the user to put someone on ignore. Besides, you can see a foe's post if you just say you want to see it.

It's great in theory (sort of), but can't be put in practice.

Well. anyone wanting to be a ranger with the recent can of worms must be deranged and only want their power to do what they want back...

Add "flaming" to the options on the drop down list of reasons for reporting a post.

Use the "other" field and specify the exact problem. It's as simple as that.

Been there, it would be nice to have a shortcut.
