I'm just going to make this thread about creating new forums, since it's an issue we all face at some point or another ;)

I know I sent this all to you over PM - cause I'm an idiot.

It would probably be easier to discuss it here :)

So, to reiterate (sp?) what I said in the PM
Quote:
Eru, Ber and Griff

I think I might actually create a "porn" forum. I know there are quite a few people on the boards who don't want to see this stuff - we could make one, and ask that anyone who does NOT want to see it, or have access to it, let us know, and we won't turn on their permissions for that forum. I feel really bad for them having to see this stuff all the time.
Each new member could be asked in their initial email whether or not they want access to it as well.

And when the boards open, we *keep* that forum closed except to members who have been members for at least a month, and have shown that they're going to stay members of the boards - aren't just trollers or perverts. Oh, and I suppose over 16/18 as well (depending on country)

whatcha think?

Estel
Discuss :P ;)

What I said in the PM... :) Let's advertise it somewhere, so that people can sign up.

As for creative names, I very much doubt that we could come up with anything better than The Secret Porn Stash :D

How bout "The Kama Sutra" - we seem to have fairly classy thread titles. Might as well keep with the flow :)

Although "Secret Hidden Porn Stash" does make me laugh :P

We'd have to change the name of this forum though.

Is this forum really necessary? I mean, is there anything here that can't go in the normal admin forum?

If there isn't, we can just recycle this forum, moving all threads here to the regular admin forum and moving all "porn" threads here. :D

Yes, there is stuff here that cannot go into the normal Admin forum. The info about the admin email address and geocities website can't be in the open because it gives out passwords and all. If someone wanted to be mean, they could wreak some havoc. So there is a need for this forum.

All other admin stuff can go into the Forum Management forum.

Shall I put it in the arts section with movies, literature and music as well? :LMAO:

hmmm, think I will :D

edit: ok - I've started it up, but I'm not going to do any permissions until we get a little more input from the sticky I put up :)

Just so you guys know - to cover the respective asses of the users of this website, when it comes to new users, permissions should NOT be given immediately except for the permission of being able to "see" the forum (meaning, they will be able to see the title, but when they click on it, they will get a message that access is restricted).

I'm going to put up a sticky in the invite forum telling new users that they have to specifically request access to that forum, and they must state that they are over 18 when they make that request. If they lie, it's not our fault or responsibility anymore.

I'm going to pm all of you to look at this message, since we have so many new users next week.

Just and update re the Porn forum. Estel sent me this info via PM

There's a thread in the England forum where the members who can read and post in there are trying to come up with a set of guidelines for that forum. In such a case, I do think it's up to the members who actually can see and participate in that forum, as opposed to all members of the board (including those who choose not to be a part of the forum).

Which is a long-winded way of saying why I haven't, and am probably not going to move it to the business forum

I'm about to make a post in there, but perhaps you want to check it out as well at some point and throw in your own viewpoint. We're kind of having a lazy laid back discussion, rather than a formal one at this point, since it's such a grey issue.
Now you know too if you didn't already ;)

Yet another new forum :Q

Yes yes, I know, y'all are probably sick of me creating new ones all the time :P Last one, I swear ;)

Bascially, I'm thinking of creating an "m77t" forum in the welcome area. I'm gonna kinda talk about the idea for a few days first - mention it here and there, and see what people think. Wanted to know what you guys think as well, and if you like it, see what others think.

I'll probably, if people like the idea, going to create the forum late tomorrow, and do the permissions for it on Thursday.

Let me know what you think :)

Can I please ask a favor though - for easyness sake, please make clickeable links naming the threadtitle when referring to any other thread.
Thanks :)

It sounds like a plan. Not just for arranging M77Tâ„¢ stuff but also to highlight other happenings - for example the Tolkien Society event in Birmingham in August. ;)

.. you'd be talking about it here and there. *Where* is here and there? In any case.. once you open up a thread on this discussion please make a clieckeable link reference in here. Or did you mean to run the discussion first in *this* thread.. and then take it out to the members? sorry! Confused :help:

.. and if you have a moment's time, please also look into the thread Discussion Admin code of conduct Your input would be very much appreciated.

Thanks :)

Alandriel, 'here' and 'there' means just that; mentioning the idea casually in conversation as seems appropriate. There was one such thread in the Turf, for example.

I guess you could consider it informal consultation. After all, if there's a feel there's a need, we can try it and see. :)

On the subject of new sub-forums and the resultant fun and games of granting permissions, did anything ever happen about creating user-groups or is that still something to look into. Or maybe it's just too much hassle on this B77 incarnation?

Thanks for the enlightenment. I'm taking things tooo seriously by far these days. I need some 'casualness' back myself ;)

As to creating sub-fora.. well... as far as I understand it:

We have major categories/fora e.g. Welcome/Info forum / The Round Table etc. In those we can create sub-fora. But that's it. We cannot create sub-fora of the sub-fora (or at least I'm not aware that we can - correct me if I'm wrong please).

Hope that helps

All I meant by 'sub-fora', is all the little forums within this great big forum that is B77. I really can't face trying to find the correct points of reference for all the different divisions within it! ;)

Leoba - I was going to do the usergroups, but since we're going to be moving, and have to do them all over again, I figure it's just easier to do it once, rather than twice ;)

Alandriel, I'll take a look later when I am "officially" on. When I come on in the afternoon, it's more for a quick perusal of what's going on, so that I can get down to the nitty-gritty right away when I come on later at night. Lately, I've been doing all the admin stuff about an hour before I go to bed (about the same time you start coming on :LMAO: )

So, if the events forum is going to be for both m77ts and Tolkien related events, should we call it The m77t and Geek or maybe just go all out and call it The m77t and g77k :damnfunny

I've already told Estel, I'd support her starting this.

I'm kind of interesting in starting some sort of Hobbies and Interests forum because it's sad to see stuff like The Cooking Guild, Aromatherapy thread, Archery Thread, or Lush thread =:) getting buried.
