Immediate permanent bans were allowed under the old rules in the instance of physical threats if the miscreant was new. If the miscreant was more established, it was the old rigamarole. In this case, solicitr is new to Board77 but not new to us, if you get my meaning, the old rules are gone, and, really, this sort of mess has no precedent, even in the days of the Charter. Ranger's choice, IOW. I'm personally not a big fan of permanent bans, and my gut reaction is to roll my eyes and snicker whenever anyone talks about backs against the wall when the revolution comes, but, all the same, that sort of threatening language should not be tolerated. At all.

Personally, I took the "first against the wall in when the revolution comes" as a reference to Douglas Adams, who used it several times in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, not a threat of physical violence.

It was a non-event. Solicitr has posted only once since he was relegated to the bike racks. He does not have PM privileges here, either. If you want to chat with him, try HoF, where he is active and conducting himself as befits HoF's "atmosphere of quiet and courtesy" in his posts and, one would assume, in his PMs.
