I'm totally with vison on that one!

I don't want to know what my friends do in bed either - but I read the threads nevertheless. I made very strange reading.

Estel, ok about the forum not being really hidden. :)

A few points on the things I brought up earlier:

Lidless just made a good post about the subject, but is very optimistic that people will have good judgement about what belongs in the adult forum and what is ok to say openly.

I just don't know what is ok and what isn't, and I'm wondering how vague we can afford to be.
Estel wrote:
As for content elsewhere on the boards... well - I'm not going to say we should have a TOS like TORC - that's ridiculous. I would simply limit it to what you see on TV - say, "Friends" or "Desperate Housewives." I wouldn't say those shows are too PG, or even PG-13 for anyone on these boards.

Sex is a part of life - I don't think we should ignore it on the rest of the boards and try to be TORC like. Teasing, innuendo and flirting are some of the best things that we can do here, that we couldn't do on TORC. That should be able to stay on the normal part of the boards.
It would be better, in my opinion, if the explicit conversations we are having were in a forum for that type of... explicitness.
Yes, things like Ax's threads are definitely a case for a forum of that kind.
But I still don't know where that "normal" amount of sexual content ends!
If it really is a legal issue, how do we know when we cross the line?

Ax asked:

When a thread veers off into sex, it's going to be up to the posters involved as to when or if it moves. Or is it? Will this be something that Lidless and Estel have to decide, as it's their collective butt out there?
That's exactly what I don't know.

For example:
What about my implying over in the Oreo thread that inter-species sex has something to do with him? To my great pleasure, some thought it was funny. But Guru seemed to think it was a bit gross. (Amazed to see I could shock Guru! ;) )
What about lidless saying that he "stroked Jae's pussy"? (Isn't Jae a minor into the bargain?) I thought that was skirting the edge of taste very precariously. But I was ROFL nevertheless.

Frankly, I just wouldn't know what is off-limits.

Edit: I just looked at the new forum. Love the name and the introductory post - excellent disclaimer, IMO! :)

Voronwe - :LMAO:

It just so happens that I am a word in the Osgiliate Dictionary! Teremia entered me. I'm an adjective :Q

My sympathies are with you Estel. Don't stay up all night doing that. I don't mind being 'blind' for as long as it takes for you to get through the list.

My post certainly was not Jnyusa-ian!!

It had a summary at the end for the hard of thinking.

You had a summary and the summary was shorter than the rest of the post. ;)

Since we're a democratic bunch of people, I guess that if some people found a thread "too much", there could be a few choices:

- They could either post about it (in the Business Room) or PM the authors of the offending posts, requesting that their post/thread be moved to the Adult forum. Of course we're all grown ups and this should be conducted with patience and politeness on both parts, to respect everyone's feelings: nobody wants to be seen as either a prude or smutty. :)

- If that direct approach is deemed too upfront, the offended parties could privately contact the admins, or a team of mediators/conflict solvers, if and when we have them. They would then contact the author(s) and negotiate moving the post/thread to the Adult forum.

Would everyone agree to that? :)

I think that we need a separate forum for discussing those matters, for several reasons: legal, courtesy, and clarity. Of course threads will osgiliate, but that's natural and we should be tolerant of light spam or osgiliations. However, let's remember that threads can be split and the osgiliated sections can easily be transplanted elsewhere. :) That could be a very useful tool for this problem.

I would like to call Iavas's attention to the number of times the word 'osgiliate' has popped up on this board. :)

It is propagating into the world at large, my friend. Oh yes. Oh yes.

LOL - well, people did give some very unflattering adjectives to that show. ;)
Ok, so it's not very original (poor lidless ;) ) - I still think it's icky. :P

But my question wasn't really what to do if an adult poster feels offended by something like that - though Ber's ideas are excellent for such a case - but what is legal and what is not.
My problem was more:
We need an extra forum, so that minors can be protected and the site owners don't get into trouble.
So, if the site owners can get into trouble by our talking about sex - how do we know where to stop?
I'd have thought the above example pretty gross, but apparently, it's not. That's what I meant by my not knowing where the limits are.

Could you say that anything really explicit - like the things in the "sex positions" thread - are off-limits for minors, but anything inexplicit, ie all sorts of innuendo, are ok?
Just looking for a definition, really. :)

Something I saw discussed recently on TORC on the issue of innuendo is that if you get it, you're old enough to understand the second meaning and therefore it won't corrupt you. But I agree that that won't help us legally, which is why we need the disclaimer...

Actually, innuendo, usually non-sequitor innuendo that makes me :Q and then :damnfunny , is something I missed on TORC. Please don't squelch the use of clever remarks on Board 77. Lidless will have nothing to say.

But as for the explicit stuff about how certain members do certain things with their members, yes, keep it in a separate closet. I don't want to have those particular images in my head, thank you.

On the other hand, I wouldn't be opposed to a little fantasy with fictional characters.   I suppose you would have to keep that in the same adults-only forum.

But in my experience 'osgiliate' is mostly used to describe an interesting, fun or worthy diversion of a thread

I must put in here that I've been referring to osgiliating conversations at dinner parties as well as with regards to agendas in production meetings. :halo:
