If it comes back up for a while, we should certainly post the global announcement and also send out an email to all members. Although we wouldn't be able to tell them exactly where we're going—maybe ask people to check b77 or TORC for that news?

While it might annoy some people to hear from a site they're no longer interested in, it would be better than having anyone who does like to stop by periodically, or who might have been taking a break, think we're gone for good.

Once the domain name has been transferred, it won't make any difference to the end user where we are - they just use the same old url that they've bookmarked and they'll find us.

Maybe prepare an email that explains the trouble we're having, and a link to this thread where they can get updates while HoF is down - and then quickly send it the moment the site comes back up again, if ever.

Once we're safely moved and up again, you can send another email inviting people back.

Good point about people who no longer visit the site getting annoyed. Maybe have a footer that tells them how to get taken off the mailing list. We can burn that bridge when we get to it. :D

See how tech-savvy I am? :D I think I knew that last time around but had forgotten, it's been so long.

I'll draft out an email tonight and will send it as soon as (if) the site comes back up. (I don't think I've actually done that before, but I assume I'll be able to figure it out.) I'm off to visit my dad for a couple of hours now.

I'm not really worried about people being annoyed. We have sent global emails before and no one has complained. I think the benefit of informing the people that want to know, outweighs any slight annoyance that the other people might have. After all, if they are like me, they got plenty of other "junk" emails.

inmotion still hasn't responded to my email, which doesn't give me such a warm and fuzzy feeling. But it has been less than three hours since I emailed them, so I guess that is a little soon to write them off. ;)

It certainly is possible that mxhub/oogeoo is down for good.

Reading thru and am not clear - have the hosts of HoF responded in any way to emails about the problem?

Can I just say that it's so nice to have a conjoined board...everyone together in one place again.

No, they have ignored my repeated requests for help or at least information for four days now.

I also still haven't gotten a response from inmotion,

HoF is back up, at least for the moment. I put up a global announcement, and hopefully will be able to send out a global email from the admin panel.

ETA: I sent out the global email, but it gave me an error message and I don't know how many it actually got sent to.

EATA: And its back down. Did anyone get the global email? I did not.

EYATA: Back up, for now.

I apologize, Voronwë—I wasn't able to be at my computer after my last post until now.

And it is nice to be at b77 again. We should visit back and forth more.

I did get it eventually, nut I also got dozens of voiced copies from people who didn't get it.

Still no response from inmotion, which pretty much rules them out. We don't want to trade one problem for another.

I think it probably makes sense to use a different host, just in case, unless we can't come up with a reasonable alternative.

I think I will email some of the other sites listed on the link that Jude had posted and see if any of them respond promptly.

Just a further update: I emailed to a different address at inmotion (sales@ as opposed to support@) and got a fairly quick response, so I think I will be going with them. I've sent another email with some questions, and hopefully the process can get started soon. Jude and Al, hopefully you can help with the tech aspects, or at least hold my hand.

I'll give what help I can.

What was the original email you sent to?

Thanks for all of your work, folks, as you try to sort this out. I'm so glad you grabbed a backup during one of the brief windows of time it was up and running.

Jude the email address that I first sent to was "support @ inmotion .com". The one that I got a response to was "sales @ inmotion .com" (without the spaces, obviously).

I hope it all goes smoothly!
