Hmm. I would be concerned if they respond to sales queries and not support ones...

You know, that was my thought, too. :(

I assumed they knew Voronwë wasn't a current customer and so ignored his email. But of course, how would they know that for sure?

I'd suggest go through the reviews and look for mentions of how fast they get back to you with support. I skimmed through them when I posted the link, and if I remember correctly, they seemed to check out.

It's possible that the support people got the email, realized it wasn't for them, and weren't sure what to do with it. I'd be more impressed if they passed it on to sales, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I agree with Prim and Jude, and that is why I decided to give them another chance by re-emailing to the sales address. As Jude said, the reviews are consistently good. I'm going to take a chance with them.

Meanwhile, HoF is back up again for now, so I am running a new backup, and hopefully it will stay up long enough for it to be generated and downloaded.

I asked this question of the person that I am dealing with at inmotion but I'll ask Jude and Al too: my assumption is that if the board stays up we can transfer the live site to the new server rather than using the backup file. Is that correct?

Ha! I attempted to make a post and it went down again. I guess I'll never know if the post went through.

I don't know the answer to your question. Alatar?

It is still up for me, and it looks like you did make a post in the Irish Moot thread. It is still telling me the backup is in progress. Hopefully it will go through!

Another question that I just asked in an email to the inmotion rep that I'll put to you guys as well. While HoF is up I'm doing another backup. While at the cPanel I noticed that it says "MySQL Databases 3". Does that mean that there are three databases? If so, that might mean that we can't use inmotion's "Launch" plan since it has a maximum of 2 databases. Grrrr. I wish I understood this stuff better!

ETA: I finished downloading the new backup. Strangely, it is almost twice as large as the previous one, which makes me wonder whether the previous one was incomplete. Or maybe the old backup file is part of what the new backup file backed up? But there was an old one already, so that can't be it, I don't think. I don't know!

I'll back up whatever there is the next time the board is up. It only takes a couple of minutes to start the process. I'm just really focused on work this week—I have to keep my clients happy. . . .

There's only one Database needed for PHPBB, so its possible the others are either backups, or maybe for Mods we no longer use?

I don't know of any way to reliable transfer a live board. In an ideal world I would bring it down to maintenance mode in PHPBB, with a message saying that the board is temporarily suspended. Then transfer to the new host, wait until the DNS is updated and everything points to the new site, and finally take out of maintenance mode. I'm not sure you'll have that option with the current flakiness.

Whats likely to happen is that while you're bringing up the new board and waiting for DNS to update, a few people will see the old board pop up occasionally, and those posts will be lost.

Are you able to see the names of the three databases? Only one of them is being used for phpbb. As I remember, with mxhub you're allowed more databases than you actually need, so when I was working on b77 I think I used some of the extra ones as test db's.

Its back down again, so I can't look at the cPanel, and even if I could, I probably wouldn't be able to figure it out. I'm glad I was able to get the new backup down, and hopefully today I can begin the process of moving, one way, or the other.

Okay, here we go. I've purchased hosting at inmotion, and I have changed the name servers for the domain name to their name servers. Once that goes through, I will be able to FTP the backup file to the new home directory, an request that they restore the backup. Once that is done, if I understand correctly, we should be back up and running. But the mxhub/oogeoo site is no more.

Jude, how could you tell? And does what I said make sense to you? The name servers propagated quickly, and I am doing the FTP transfer, but it looks like it should take a couple of hours. I hope I am doing it correctly!

Cool. I hope everything works okay. Still another two and half hours for the FTP transfer.
