Or should I do it?

I don't have the EE so far - no money, no one to watch with.

Tomorrow is the last day of school and I have reserved the school cineman ( a small cinema, but nevertheless with beamer and the rest) and now, of course, my students have asked me to watch the EE with them tomorrow.

However, I hesitate: I could not watch in entirely, only the first two hours, and I'd have to see it in French :help: with them....

But on the other hand, if I have to wait, it might be 2005 before I can lay my greedy eyes on that DVD.

What shall I do?????

Yeah! Stick it on! Who knows you could find more wardrobe-LotR fans hiding in your school.

Bang a gong...

As for the deliberate substitution of the americanism, I finally managed to read "Eats Shoots and Leaves"

You know, I would do something more educational.

m00bie person here:

Read a passage from the book, then show the same bit from the movie where there is a difference (there are a few if you look closely enough) and ask them why they think the film-makers made the changes, despite the book being so popular.

I would second Lidless' thought...

Though I would show them the movie. Then say they have to read the WHOLE Book over Christmas holidays.

Just for balance, or because you didn't watch it in the end? :D

I second Rodia!

Btw. if you've got a little Angel among your pupils, they could ban you for a public showing without the New Line permit.

Here at school we always establish that we are one huge loving family before putting on a dvd.:P

But seriously, make them read the book. When I was 11, I was in Ireland and we had a fragment of The Hobbit in our English book. I thought it was pretty cool but the teacher said 'Tolkien's works would be too difficult for you lot'.

I wasn't the type of kid to read that as a challenge. I said 'Ah, okay' and bought a Beano comic.

*sigh*

To think that I could have played hobbits in the green of Ireland. Not that the green of Poland is any worse, but when you're 13 and don't have any friends because you just moved back home after four years, you don't get much play pretend. :(

I have several students who have read the book under my consistent influence... and even some parents. I can't read it with them, because I am their German teacher, and so it's not my field, but I answer questions of the students who read, even if they are not in one of my classes... (And I do the same for Harry Potter readers and some other authors too)

And the State of Geneva pays a certain sum per year to the WOIP for author rights, so it's legal to show movies in classes.

However, we did not watch ROTK, because Raphael, the one who owns the precious DVD forgot it at home. Of course, others had other DVDs as proposals (I had told them we would vote.....)

So what do you think, what did we end up watching????

Troy, of course

When did you first read it then? My introduction to The hobbit was at school when I was 9. It was our class book and I fell totally in love with it, and runes and Bilbo.

Nin, no wonder you put that in little letters. Eari may threaten to dismember you when she sees it! ;)

I read LOTR for the first time 22 years ago, almost day for day... I even know the days, because I was in hospital.

And The Hobbit years later - and never liked it very much  .
