I don't know how many of you know him. He was one of the biggest stars in Newspaper and adventure comics in the 40ies, and had a huge comeback in the nineties.
He died at age 87, and many of his "graphic novels" were dripping with Schmaltz, but heck, that man could draw. He was one of my biggest idols and I'll cherish the autographed copy of "The Building" even more from now on. Though I would rather have his "Comics and sequential art" autographed.

I read about it today and in my local newspaper, they called him the "Leonardo da Vinci" of comics.

But I don't know him

I thought I could link them, but you have to be subscirbed to the newspaper to enter their archives....

...but for the influence he had on people like Kirby and Kane, will Will Eisner be remembered.

What a treasure!

I learned of him via Scott McCloud. I read his A Contract with God and found it true art: disturbing, superb, mundane, wonderful. I am very sorry he is gone.

Nin -- merci.

Kushana - I am pleased you liked it, and Will Eisner has been mentionned again in the recent newspapers as the festival of Angoulême is about to start and the president this year is the Swiss Zep - the creator of Titeuf- a guy from Geneva.

And welcome to board 77!

Titeuf is a series for children or young teen-agers which has a huge succes in the French speaking countries. The graphic is not the best IMHO, but the texts and jokes are very good, and he does not avoid more sensitive subjects for youngsters.

This is Titeuf [ img ]

And a link to a small story about Titeuf trying condoms. Préservatives
