Have to say, I know its a comedy piece, but that just reeks of people abusing a sensible law. Can't put it on Obama.

I had heard about Obama's deportation policies. (I think REL is the one who pointed it out.) I'm also not a fan of Obama's policy in Syria or with drone strikes. There were, in fact, plenty of things to be unhappy about with Obama. There were plenty of things to be happy about, too, though.

To explain how deeply disturbed I am by Trump's actions so far would take more time and emotional energy than I have right now. He continues to bypass our so highly vaunted checks and balances system, something all of my conservative friends would trot out as a platitude when I would express my concern about a childish man with no self-restraint or character being in charge of the US. I seem to remember conservatives losing their damn minds every time Obama signed an executive order. If I have the count right, Trump has done 10 executive orders in 5 days of office. :scared:

To paraphrase Isaac Asimov, if you think Obama did nothing wrong, you're wrong. If you think Trump has done nothing wrong, you're wrong. But if you think Obama was just as wrong as Trump, then your view is wronger than both of them put together.

(not aimed at anyone here)

Yes. I've disagreed with policy decisions by every president. Some more than others, of course. But Trump is just plain bizarre, and he says the first thing he thinks of, truthful or not. The Mexican president cancels a visit? Response by Trump: No, it was my idea all along. Trump's feelings get hurt by facts about the election results or the inauguration ceremony? Decree an investigation (wasting taxpayer funds on nonsense), or shut them down. And today, I heard his statement about relationships with foreign leaders, which was pretty much "sometimes I get along well with people, and others I don't" (meanwhile, I'm thinking "It's your damn job to get along with them on behalf of the US, no matter what your personal feelings.") His behavior is definitely weird and unusual. :)
And I'm getting more disturbed by Steve Bannon's ghastly influence every day.

In what looks to be a terrorist act against Muslims, we had a shootout at a Quebec City mosque, in which six people were killed and eight were wounded. Two men have been arrested.

Just wondering, is this being reported outside of Canada?

Jude, it's one of the main stories on the CS Monitor's "World" page.

On a more cheerful note, scientists find "E.T." bug.

Yes, it's the main story on the BBC's World news page, and also features on the Home page.

Jude, I get most of my news via Twitter, and I found out last night. :( It's also in my news feed. Fox has a headline that quotes Trudeau calling this a terrorist attack.

And it gets worse. Fox and other outlets identified the attacker as a Moroccan Muslim. Others say that the Moroccan individual was one of the worshippers and the suspect is in fact a white French Canadian.

Jude, what's the word in Canadian news?

Frelga, he looks like a right wing type to me.

The second suspect, a Muslim, is no longer considered to be a suspect, but a witness.

The suspect's name is Alexandre Bissonnette - from his picture, he couldn't possibly look more white. And you can't get a more French-Canadian name than "Bissonnette". I know several of them.

So Fox has issued a retraction and an apology, right? Right?

The news tonight reported only on the white French-Canadian guy.

It's very sad. :(

They did publish an updated version identifying Bissonnette as the shooter. But not before White House Press Secretary Spicer used the tragedy to justify Islamophobia.

Luckily Sean Spicer has informed us that banning Muslims will help stop this sort of thing. i.e. Muslims being attacked.

I suppose he's right technically...

What the hell sort of twisted reasoning uses an attack on Muslims to justify Islamophobia?
