I would agree with that. Perhaps they should go back a century or two for ideas. ;)

There are only so many ways to drape fabric around a body, though. Repeats are inevitable.

True, but the recycling of whole eras lately seems excessive. Hip-huggers/ low-rise pants, platform shoes, hippy-ish looking maxi dresses, etc. and now leggings/ yoga pants with tunics. I even saw embroidered bell-bottoms at one point. Sometimes it seems like the only things they've skipped (for women) are the Seattle grunge look, and the Annie Hall look.

I'm with Lali. Doublets and hose for men, maybe? =:)

I'd love to see the return of manly yet ornate outfits.

Few men can pull off the hose with dignity, though. :D

What's an example of an outfit you deem manly yet ornate?

Maybe we men can indulge you if it's not too ridiculous-looking :D

Well, for a version that is practical in today's world (i.e., doesn't include armor, lace, and excessive jewelry), I'm very fond of the Hobbit costumes in LOTR, and their real world inspiration.

But with shoes.

My husband has been thinking of wearing one of his kilts to work someday. He hasn't quite worked himself up to it yet, though.

In case you're wondering what criminal justice is like in Canada...
Quote:
Police in Kensington, P.E.I., are threatening drunk drivers with a new form of punishment: being trapped in a cruiser playing a 15-year-old Nickelback album.

A post on the Kensington Police Service's Facebook page encourages people to plan to use a designated driver or cabs when going out, and reminds them Kensington police will be out "looking for those dumb enough to feel they can drink and drive."

"When we catch you, and we will catch you, on top of a hefty fine, a criminal charge and a year's driving suspension we will also provide you with a bonus gift of playing the office's copy of Nickelback in the cruiser on the way to jail," reads the post, alongside a photo of Nickelback's 2001 album Silver Side Up.

"So please, let's not ruin a perfectly good unopened copy of Nickelback. You don't drink and drive and we won't make you listen to it."

Adorable. But won't the officer have to listen, too?

As he prepared to carry out the sentence, Officer Barnum suddenly froze as he realized the awful implications. Behind him, in the back seat, the suspect was grinning ear to ear.

"I guess you guys didn't really think this through, did you?" he sneered.

Not necessarily, if they enacted the punishment on the side of the road instead of while driving to the police department. Lock the prisoner in the back of the cruiser and then go off and do something else nearby. :D

BTW, I really don't mind some of those Nickelback songs. There, I've said it. :P

I was misremembering the band name. I thought the article was referring to Nickel Creek! I couldn't imagine why that would be considered punishment. :nono:

Maybe not Nickel Creek, specifically, but certain kinds of bluegrass music and, definitely, most types of country music, would be a worse punishment for me!

<high five> :D

I think I read an article awhile ago about why there's all this hate for Nickelback, but, for the life of me, I can't remember what it said. I just know that I like several of their songs and the whole album (Silver Side Up) is pretty good.

One of the band members said in the above article that all this negative publicity was actually beneficial for them :D I think most of it is meant as not-entirely-serious.

I should check them out some time. See, without all these anti-Nickelback jokes I'd probably never even have heard of them.

I think having to listen to Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, over and over, would be a good punishment this time of year.

Glad I'm not the only one who's never heard of Nickelback. :)

I'll clarify. I like "How you remind me" and Chad Kroeger's "Hero".

That's about all I know!
