What's this about the jurors for the Cosby trial being deadlocked after 30 hours? Surely there can't be any doubt?

Lest we forget...

http://www.whio.com/entertainment/can-y ... qq9hRWm5H/

The delightful irony of a (hideous) Jesus statue being struck by lightning, burning completely, and leaving behind a frightening metal figure does not diminish with time. :D :damnfunny: :LMAO:

BTW, I called him Touchdown Jesus. And he has been replaced now with what I lovingly call Floating Jesus. (They really missed the opportunity to have Jesus float around on the pond in a sort of tribute to the whole "walking on water" thing. )

"The Michigan State Police have announced the roll out Monday of a major, summer-long, enforcement operation they are calling “Summer of Semi Safe D.”

I honestly don't know whether this is a typo, a prank on the reporter, or real.

Oh my goodness! And I'm reading it as if "semi" means "kind of." :LMAO:

But it is real:

Definitely weird:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-40473547
Quote:
Aztec tower of human skulls uncovered in Mexico City

Quote:
Said to be the heads of defeated warriors, contemporary accounts describe tens of thousands of skulls looming over the soldiers - a reminder of what would happen if they did not conquer territory.

...What they found has shocked them, because in among the skulls of the young men are those of women and children - bringing into question everything historians thought they knew.

Some religions in the US view the eclipse today as a warning, others as an opportunity to convert people
Quote:
In Casper, Wyoming, which is expecting thousands of visitors, a pair of Baptist churches and a local chapter of a Christian nonprofit will hand out hundreds of copies of God of Wonders, a movie, styled like a nature documentary, that features creationist explanations for everything from weather systems to DNA.

And watch out for the evil rogue planet Nibiru. ;)
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/0/will-2017-solar-eclipse-cause-secret-planet-called-nibiru-destroy/
Quote:
Conspiracy theorists around the world are claiming that a planet will collide with Earth this September - and that the coming total solar eclipse will signal the apocalypse's beginning.

David Meade, author of 'Planet X – The 2017 Arrival', asserts the planet Nibiru (also known as Planet X) will crash into our own on 23 September 2017. Although scientists deny the planet's existence, Meade is convinced he is right after finding bible passages to support his claims.

..."Nibiru is populated by the Anunnaki, an advanced humanoid race, who visited Earth thousands of years to mine gold in Africa. "As an outcome of needing workers to carry out these mining operations they used genetics to create Homo Sapiens".

:Q

Wow.

I remember a favorite book of mine when I was little. It's called The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet. It had a neat concept about a planet close to earth between the earth and the moon, and it could only be seen with a special filter on a telescope. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wonde ... oom_Planet

And I'm not the least bit surprised by the Baptist churches.

Well, as creation myths go, it's not a bad one.

Confederate monuments are coming down, but I hope they decide to keep this one.

It seems that ESPN doesn't have a high opinion of its average viewer and his/her ability to tell the difference between an announcer and a guy who's been dead for a very long time:
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/347600-espn-removes-announcer-because-his-name-is-robert-lee
Quote:
ESPN removed announcer Robert Lee from coverage of the University of Virginia's opening football game "simply because of the coincidence of his name,” according to CNN.

Lee, an Asian-American, was pulled over his shared name with the Confederate general in an attempt to avoid controversy, CNN reported.

I don't think this is how you avoid controversy...

You have probably seen this already but just in case.

Man Who Saved the World From Nuclear Armageddon in 1983 Dies at 77

Quote:
Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov was 44 years old and working at a missile detection bunker south of Moscow on September 26, 1983. His computer told him that five nuclear missiles were on their way, and given their flight time, he had just 20 minutes to launch a counter attack. But Petrov told his superior officers that it was a false alarm. He had absolutely no real evidence that this was true, but it probably saved millions of lives.

“The siren howled, but I just sat there for a few seconds, staring at the big, back-lit, red screen with the word ‘launch’ on it,” Petrov told the BBC’s Russian Service back in 2013.

“I had all the data [to suggest there was an ongoing missile attack]. If I had sent my report up the chain of command, nobody would have said a word against it,” Petrov said.

This is the first time I see a feel-good story that starts with the words "New Jersey Survivalist"

New Jersey Survivalist Donates Decades Of Hoarded Food To Puerto Rico

Quote:
Last month, Badame met Victoria and Anthony Barber, who run a Puerto Rican food truck, and Victoria told him how some of her relatives were now without food in the aftermath of Maria. Badame responded by telling her that she could have all the food in his basement.

"Those people are starving and they have nothing," he said to the Post. "I just can't sit by."

Badame had 80 barrels in his basement, each of which weighed 360 pounds. Each barrel was filled with non perishables, such as rice, dried beans, flour, and sugar. The food, which Badame said he was going to lose anyway because of the foreclosure, can feed 84 people for up to 4 months, according to NBC4.

You knew this was going to happen eventually:

Plane sustained minor damage after hitting drone near Quebec City

The article doesn't mention whether they caught the idiot responsible. I hope they do.
