January should be too early to start a thread like this, but the Republican Iowa Caucus is this coming Monday. Frightfully early. The Democrats are having theirs a bit later.
In both parties it seems the incumbent will be the nominee. Of course we can't know anything until people actually start voting. In 2008 Giuliani was the front runner until voting started, and it turned out nobody actually liked him.
Still, the press is covering the race between Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis as if one of them is going to be the nominee, when they are competing for second.
The Democrats have even less of a primary, even though they have one. RFK Jr. dropped out of the primary to run independent. He is going to speak at the upcoming California Libertarian Convention. Maybe he's going to jump ship from Democrat to Libertarian.
There are rumors for both parties about someone other than the front-runner getting the nomination. Some people say Joe Biden will step aside and nominate his successor, and some people say the Republicans will deliberately have a brokered convention to nominate someone other than Trump.
