I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map, And knew that somehow I could find my way back; Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too - So I stayed in the darkness with you

Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping

SF, I don't play the "why don't you answer my questions!?" game.

I don't know why you think I'm picking on you. I've done just as much to CG.

Hal
I do think this is important and is the crux of the matter.

If you and others do not like me calling CG out when he pulls the crap he does, why don't you and the others do something about it before I get engaged into the fray and then you do not like those results?

WHY?

I think that is a question that needs an answer.

No problems SF with you posting a Joni Mitchell song. Hal's problem over it frankly puzzles me.
No problems either with you picking on a CG point and criticising it. Same goes for him too.
I do groan to myself though when both of you (CG is just as guilty) run round in circles for page after page biting each others tails over one point. To be fair I didn't see much evidence of it in this forest thread.
Repetition is not a debating style that is very effective.
Though when hal came out with the same complaint my chin cracked a couple of floor tiles.

Because I, for one, do not feel the need to call CG out on anything in a discussion I have not followed or had any say in whatsoever?

I'm not policing the board for references to Hitler, or bad debating style.

If I'm in a thread, and CG does something that pisses me off, I'll call him on it, just like i will anyone else. If it needs a new thread, I'll start one.

OR

I'll ignore it completely, and move on.

Either way, it doesn't get into a one on one argument between me and someone else that has nothing whatsoever to do with the topic.

I'm not saying I'm perfect, or having derailed many a thread in the past... What I AM saying, is that you, SF, and CG, do it ALL THE TIME...

Hal

thank you for that answer

I think its a good answer

my two cents here --- you cannot have freedom of speech without some people not liking the results ---- either you defend it or you get rid of it ...

Some Supreme Court justice once said that "freedom is the right to be the most unpopular man in town". I think that applies to both CG and myself when we get going here.

But I view that as a positive thing. Omelets and broken eggs and all that.

I happen to love this country and its people and its way of life.

I view his idealogy as dangerous and subversive and something that would destroy America and its people if allowed to go unchallenged every time it raises its ugly head.

That is the most direct answer I can give you.

But if you would simply argue ON TOPIC, this wouldn't be an issue.

What BOTH of you do, is lay little traps or baiting for the other, and wait for the other to bite, and THEN you run with it, and derail the whole thread.

You're not interested in discussing the topic at hand, you're only interested in "scoring points" against the other. IT's got to stop... and now I'm derailing my own thread again...

There is no libertarian program to deforest America.

3) CG has in the past derided me and others for his fallacy of using Hitler as evil ---Ad Hitlerum -

4) I post the source from Wikipedia showing that CG is doing the very thing that he has said in the past is verbotten and loses the argument
See the Bikeracks thread for a refutation of that.

Perhaps I should have said the Libertarian program which would result in the deforesting of America

The Ad Hitlerum fallacy you used is so spot on that the Wikipedia article could have been written directly for you and your usuage of the Hitler/Gun Control poster

Save it for the Bikeracks thread if you really think that I used that fallacy.
