I almost (almost) can't believe this.
http://www.talk2action.org/story/2006/5/29/195855/959
Quote:
Imagine: you are a foot soldier in a paramilitary group whose purpose is to remake America as a Christian theocracy, and establish its worldly vision of the dominion of Christ over all aspects of life. You are issued high-tech military weaponry, and instructed to engage the infidel on the streets of New York City. You are on a mission - both a religious mission and a military mission -- to convert or kill Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, gays, and anyone who advocates the separation of church and state - especially moderate, mainstream Christians. Your mission is "to conduct physical and spiritual warfare"; all who resist must be taken out with extreme prejudice. You have never felt so powerful, so driven by a purpose: you are 13 years old. You are playing a real-time strategy video game whose creators are linked to the empire of mega-church pastor Rick Warren, best selling author of The Purpose Driven Life.

The game, slated for release by October 2006 in advance of the Christmas shopping rush, has been previewed at video game exhibitions, and reviewed by major newspapers and magazines.
...
This game immerses children in present-day New York City -- 500 square blocks, stretching from Wall Street to Chinatown, Greenwich Village, the United Nations headquarters, and Harlem. The game rewards children for how effectively they role play the killing of those who resist becoming a born again Christian. The game also offers players the opportunity to switch sides and fight for the army of the AntiChrist, releasing cloven-hoofed demons who feast on conservative Christians and their panicked proselytes (who taste a lot like Christian).

Is this paramilitary mission simulator for children anything other than prejudice and bigotry using religion as an organizing tool to get people in a violent frame of mind? The dialogue includes people saying, "Praise the Lord," as they blow infidels away.
...
It is based on a series of books that have already set sales records - the blockbuster Left Behind series of 14 novels by writer Jerry B. Jenkins and his visionary collaborator, retired Southern Baptist minister Tim LaHaye. "We hope teenagers like the game," Mr. LaHaye told the Los Angeles Times. "Our real goal is to have no one left behind."
And it just goes on and on...

Edit: Forgot the link

For as much detail as they give about the game itself, they can't tell us the name?

Actually, I'm quite impressed with the lack of specific names overall, other than the random associations with Warren and Jenkins.

Born again Christians, eh?

How many lives do they get?

They did tell us the name: "Left Behind: Eternal Forces".

Edit: Sorry; it appears I forgot to link to the story. That's fixed now.
Edit2: And now they appear to be having problems server-side. Keep trying; it will come back up eventually.

Getting an error when I try to access the website.

Here's what the Seattle Times has to say about it.

It's a stupid idea, but it's not even close to as bad as that first article made it out to be.

Um... if the anti-christ is trying to kill me... darn it all I'm going to defend myself...

very badly written set of books to base a video game on, though...

I'd like to see [christian extremist] complain about GTA now.

Overall, I don't care. People can make whatever kind of video games they want, ideologically driven or not.

I've done this before: check me out

From the game maker's website

Once again, I'd like to point out that referring to "born agains" in a derrogitory form is quite insulting...

I didn't refer to them in a derogatory form, though, despite the way you decided to take it, but for the sake of argument, I shall clarify further. It would be more hypocritical of [christian extremist] to slam the video game industry now that there is a game slated to debut in October which is reportedly as violent as any game from the GTA series.

Remove [christian extremist] and replace it with liberals if we ever see a conservative-killing game.

HAHAHA this reminds me of a Simpsons episode where Bart goes to play a video game with Rod and Tod and all they have is a christian game where the aim is to "convert the heathens". :D

I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map, And knew that somehow I could find my way back; Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too - So I stayed in the darkness with you

TED: After a small discussion with hal about the term "born again" I would like to clarify why is may be insulting. All Christians are born again, which is what baptism is all about. Where as when I see the term "born again" I think of those radical conservatives that think that all that aren't from their church are going to hell. Perhaps when refering to the "born agains'" specify if you are speaking about all Christians or just that radical group that people refer to as "born agains".

I think the game is disgusting and a real turn-off to religion. It makes me glad I'm not like them and it's another reason I will never ever take a group like that seriously. Non-denominational religion 100, organized religion -10.

Unfortunately, dominionism needs to be taken seriously because its star is rising.

Yeah I seen some of those games. Just too weird for me. In one of them (I tihnk the game mentioned in the first post) you heal\power-up\regenerate\restore relationships with characters by praying....

So...do I sit around for 5 minutes while my character prays or what? I just don't see that working out too well. Seems ridiculous. ;)

*plays Doom 3 for some REAL blasting of hell-spawn*

Sounds dumb and boring.

Does nayone really think this can compete with Halo or other mainstream games?

Just someone trying to find a niche market to make some money in. They won't be getting any on mine though.

From the Seattle Times article:
Quote:
"The game is set in New York City, where the Tribulation Force clashes with the Antichrist's Global Community Peacekeepers in a tale that makes the United Nations a tool for Satan. Each side attempts to recruit lost souls in the battle for the city."
:Q :LMAO:

Do we know if this game sold more than 30,000 copies?

Tying this topic in with Alatar's US inteligence topic, couldn't this game be said to be a tool of a terrorizing group?
