Wal-Mart is facing calls to pull "Left Behind: Eternal Forces" from the shelves. They've refused to sell other games due to mature content; will they follow suit with a Christian-themed one?

What a rediculous premise. Thanks for bumping this thread. I hadn't read about this before.

I think this represents a very very small group of people who call themselves Christians. Remeber that just because an orange thinks it's an apple doesn't make it an apple. There are pleanty of people who call themselves Christians but are very very far removed from a lifestyle that resembles that of Christ at all!

Yes, because the lifestyle of the first century aramaic jew is found so commonly in the western world today. :LMAO:

I am sure he would be spinning in his grave had he remained or not been stolen.

You know, the REAL problem is that copyright and trademark law was so sloppy back under the Romans.

Of course, even if there were a circle-R next to Christianity, the Chinese would be putting out cheap pirate copies anyway. :D

:Q

The only good part about this is I am on the list of targets in that game.

But that's poor comfort, since these people still call themselves Christian.

What. The. Fuck.

Before you get all worked up, read a review:
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/left-behind-et ... 748p1.html

Sounds pretty bland.

Sounds like an awesome game. Where can I burn a copy of it?

Iavas - that's exactly what I thought of, only it made me laugh when they did it. :Q

Ro,

don't worry you can join the rest of us heathens. We're really not that bad of a lot, well except for the drunken debauchery at Mordor (that get's out of hand sometimes).

ok Why would any real Christian buy this? I don't remember Christ ever saying line them up and shoot them. But hey I could have got it all wrong, being I am not in the secret Christian hand shake club and don't presume to know the mind of god.

Read the review. The game contains no violence.

What no lightening bolts from finger tips.... what kind of sick twisted game is this?

Gosh.

On second thought the review does mention Clint Eastwood???

If anybody wants some fun religious-themed violence, crazy *E* recommend these titles:
  • -DEAD ALIVE, which features a kung-fu fighting priest who yells at zombies: "I kick ass for the lord!"

-KILLER CONDOM, where zealots create a new lifeform to combat NYC deviants. The title is self-explanatory. :P

-JESUS CHRIST VAMPIRE HUNTER. Ottawa's lesbiens are disappearing thanks to scientists who are killing them in order to graft their skin onto vampires, allowing them to feed during the day as well.

Well, actually, there is violence, but its supposed to be a last resort, and you have to pray afterwards.

I kid you not.

What bothers me here is less the game itself than the whole "Left Behind" movement that produced it. It would be silly to ban the game, for example, even if it were everything its most vocal detractors claim it is. a) that would just make it more popular, b) that's called treating the symptoms.

You know what always gets me in cases like this is the fact that stuff has to be 'banned'. I wish (yeah, I know) that it would simply be that such stuff wouldn't find a market. That store owners would say 'Nope, don't want to carry this because I find it offensive.' Like, I don't buy my newspaper or tram tickets from kiosks that advertise and sell anti-clerical magazines, and I don't visit churches that support extremist radio stations. Basically, I wish we didn't need to rely on governments banning stuff to keep something as unpleasant as this off the shelves.

And even if there's no killing per se, what the hell anyway? If only it were a parody...

What exactly bothers you about the Left Behind movement? The fact that a product which has found commercial success, does not share your beliefs? You seem to be inordinately worried about dominionism. Have you read any of the Left Behind works? Do you know they have absolutely nothing to do with present day Christians banding together and taking over the world? This is not present day stuff, this is not marching orders for Christians to go beat people over the head and kill infidels. All the events are a fictionalized representation of a time period after the removal of all believers from the Earth. I don't think this belief qualifies as particularly extreme in the first place, it's fairly mainstream.

Even if people take all this literally to heart, you have nothing to worry about. If that many people are actually removed from earth, the behavior of post-rapture converts will probably be the least of your worries. If you never notice a sudden mass vanishing, then those looney Christians will pretty much remain in check...no taking over, no nothing.

What exactly is the "ordinate" amount of concern one should show toward a movement that's bent on reconstructing political and legal systems based on Biblical law? That denies basic tenants of science in an age where science is the only thing standing between humanity and starvation? That opposes environmentalism not because it doubts its conclusions, but because it believes the environment doesn't matter? Resource depletion/overpopulation is the #1 threat to humanity today; radical religion is only a little behind it.
