Had to happen, really. ;)

- Being able to move between countries with just my ID card.
- All the different languages, and most people speaking at least 2 languages.
- That despite centuries of bloodshed we can come together and feel kinship.
- The sense of deep, rich history per square metre. It is, and has always been, a densely populated place. :D
- The blasé attitude towards said history; how we can be avant-garde and futuristic as well as keeping traditions.
- Scandinavian folklore, Greek mythology, German fairy tales... and knowing that all that is my own cultural heritage.
- Big cities at dusk.
- Old-world cynicism. Yes, we really have seen it all. ;)
- The welfare state.
- That we have the right attitude towards sex and guns. ;)

Sadly, I've never been anywhere in Europe. :bawl: But, from afar, here are the things I love:

1) History
2) Houses and structures that are older than my country!
3) Beautiful landscapes (Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, Mediterranean area, etc.)
4) Turkish Delight
5) Castles
6) Ethnicity
7) J. R. R. Tolkien
8) C. S. Lewis
9) Charlotte Bronte
10) Monarchies (especially historically speaking)

Lali, when I'm over the baby chaos (and have a bigger house - I can't even fit a cot in my bedroom here! :D ) I will invite you to visit here, then you invite me over and then we can exchange travellers' tales. :)

The Turkish Delight will be all yours... I never liked it much to start with and now I'm pregnant I've gone off chocolate! :Q :LMAO:

Oh, I forgot to mention among the things I love about Europe: the variety of foods. Starting a meal with Spanish seafood, then having some fish grilled Greek-style, then a British bit of roast meat, and finishing off with French cheeses and Austrian pastries is my idea of gastro heaven.

Mmmmm, that sounds really good! (I am hungry!)

Oh, if I get the Turkish Delight, then I will bring you some Fritos. How's that?

Goodness, ten things I love about Europe already and I have never been there at all:

Your histories!! Gosh, it exists for thousands of years!!
Your arts!! I could spend years just going to galleries and public places and soaking in the art/architecture/sculpture alone.
Your gardens and how mostly tended the landscapes are. You live on so little land compared to us Americans, but what you DO have is so lovingly tended.
Your attitudes about most things.
Your diversity - Europe is comparable in size to the US, but 1000 times more complex, and yet for the most part, you DO seem to all get along okay now.
Food!!
Wines!!
Your attitudes about yourselves. So much calmer for the most part than us who are often times rather ranting sorts and all too common here trying to provoke things.
Everything in Europe seems to be accessable so much more easily than does even travel about the US.
Your lifestyles - you seemingly do so much better with so much less than what we do here, and I am not speaking "down" to anyone, but what we take as "signs of success" are all so superficial and rather vain in comparison to what you all view as important.

:D:D

Its easy, really.

Finland, for Rowan
Denmark, for Parma
Germany, for Truehobbit and Areanor
Spain, for Berhael
Scotland, for Alys
Wales, for Teh Angel
England for Leoba and Din and Tosh and Pearly Di and Edain and Lidless and.... lots of others
France, for Niamh
Poland, for Rodia
Switzerland, for Nin
Italy, for Taurie

But aside from all that.

The Black forest and Cologne Cathedral
The Champs Elysees and the Jardin des Tuillieres, among other things
The West End and Indian restaurants
Arthur's seat and the Royal Mile
A carafe of wine and some Antipasta just off the Piazza Navona
Russian Vodka in an Irish bar in Red Square when its 30 degrees below
Dining al-fresco on the shores of the Mediterranean
Legoland in Billund
The third pint of Guinness, as the turf fire starts to die and the night starts to come alive.
Being one reasonably priced flight away from any of these. (Except the last one of course...)

Oh I can answer this one:

1. Physical remnants of history on the doorstep and being able to take it for granted. :D Medieval churches, stone circles, barrows, ancient villages and cities, Roman roads; century upon century of layers of life all interwoven.

2. The closeness of neighbouring countries: most of Europe being accessible and affordable to visit.

3. English bluebells carpeting the floor of beech woodlands.

4. Baked Beans!

5. A dislike of flag-waving.

6. Irish men (however old I get I don’t think I will ever grow out of my ‘thing’ for the accent)

7. Lots of holiday/leave/time off work (especially on the continent)

8. Making complex models out of sand on the beach at La Trinite-sur-Mer in Brittany.

9. Ferraris

10. The invention of the printing press.
